Help With Brake Noise
OK, I'll try to explain this noise just on the off chance someone has heard it before. I have cross drilled (actually dimpled)/slotted rotors with z06 calipers on a 2001 A4 coupe (40K miles). The brakes make some sort of noise that almost sounds like a kids bicycle with a piece of plastic on the spokes. I can actually hear it when I'm not on the brakes but it gets much louder when the brake is depressed. I've had the car checked by a mechanic who owns 12 corvettes including 2 C5's and the pads were changed. He could not locate the source of the noise and said he had never heard a car make that noise. It may not even be coming from the brakes but it is definitely coming from the wheels somewhere. Any thoughts or suggestions on where to look next. He suggested that maybe the noise was being made by air in the dimples on the rotors. All help would be appreciated.
