After carefull searching, my dealer promised me that they could mount new tires without scratching wheels. Well, did they ever screw up! My question is -What type of coating is on those wheels and can it be fixed or are new wheels the only answer.
That is why going into a tire change out I`m asking about 'no touch" machines. I noticed a larger Corvette store sells AE mag wheel 'touch up paint", I doubt it works really well, but wish I knew, could use it a little if it did, anyone know ?
clear coat.
their body shop can wet sand and re-clear if they are only paint scratches...
If the metal has been gouged then they need to go to a wheel refinisher
They repair or sell reconditioned wheels. I cracked my right front wheel on a pothole. I bought a recondition Anniversary Edition front wheel . It balanced perfectly and looks great.
Hi, I feel your pain, I have an AE vert that I'm going to get new tires for in a few weeks,(can't stand the GY runflats), and I have the same concern that you are experiencing. I'm going to look for an experienced tire store that has the right equipment, and personel to handle it properly. If yours are scratched, a good buffing with a new kind of clear coat polish,(it actually smooths and flows the coat back to smoothness) will probably work, if the scratches are through the paint, than to look really right, they will need to be repainted, you can touch them up, but if you are like me, it will probably not satisfy you. The wheel paint is called Champagne and dupont makes a version of it, called light warm nickel metallic.
Good Luck
