Default Do you guys worry about this

My wife is taking the vette to a very good (used them before) tire shop to get a new TPS (have valve stem problems w/ 1 wheel.). I am sitting at work worrying about it. (Will they scratch the car, get grease on the steering wheel, smudge marks, etc.).

Am I too obsessed?

I would worry on any car that I own taking it to anyone. We had to take my wife's car to discount to fix a stem and they broke a lug nut. Luckily I was there to see it and they replaced it on the spot.

I worry about that constantly.

Now, anytime any of my cars go into a shop, I watch like a hawk, and if they have a problem with it, I go elsewhere.

I took my Miata for a tire change once, and they lost one of the center caps and returned the car to me while standing in front of the affected wheel, hoping I wouldn't see it.

I took my Ranger in for a tire change (different shop) and they dropped the rim and bent the flange on the outside face.

The following year, I took the Ranger to yet ANOTHER tire shop and they dropped a DIFFERENT rim. So now I have two dinged rims.

So considering my luck with tire shops, when I put new rubber on the Vette, I stood no further than 10 feet away the whole time. Finally got good service! The guy was very friendly, and handled everything with both hands and very carefully. He didn't tighten the lugs with an air gun, he used a torque wrench. He even jacked the car up properly. He also gave me, free of charge, shorter chrome valve stems.

Any time I have to get work done on the Vette I'm like an expectant father pacing the waiting room. Crazy, I know but what can I say

I definitely know I worry about it. Even though I trust my mechanic there is always chance that something can happen.

My car will never set foot in a tire store. When I replace the original RF's I will jack it up in my garage and pull 2 off one side at a time and put them in my truck and take them to the tire store and watch them like a hawk while they change them.

I take the wheels to the tire shop (leave the Vette at home).. that way the worst they can do is buy me new wheels.
Their policy is we scratch it... we replace it...

I guess it is too late now to take the wheel off and just take the wheel that needs repair to the shop?
When I got new tires, I did not think the lift was low enough to drive on, so I just took 2 wheels at a time to have the tires mounted.

Are you sure they know how to lift a vette by using lift pucks. More than one idiot has place the lift points on the plastic rockers panels and cracked them.

I asked repeatedly if they use lift puks and I go as far as leaving a note taped to the radio when I know someone needs to lift the car.

I don't worry. Its a car and can be fixed if they mess something up. I just check the mileage and look over the whole car. but what do I know, I drive mine dailey, rain, cold, sunny, whatever. my z was meant to be driven, not make me worry about it
