2 ways of doing this that I know of, I ordered both to see what I would decide on:

1) Universal Ipod2car w/ PXHGM4 harness

2) Spec.Dock from www.2point5.com

Both of these allow volume control, skipping forward and back, etc. from the factory receiver and also charge your ipod. They are also direct connections for best quality AKA no FM transmitter garbage.

Are you allowed to control through YOUR IPOD instead of say a deck?
If not, what would allow you to do that

the iSimple iPod2Car set is awesome. I recently installed it. It allows you full control with the ipod click wheel and also enables your factory radio controls for volume, and track selection.

iSimple iPod2car kit ISGM73 and you need the PXHGM4 (the numbers are something like that...i may be off by a letter...but you get the point) wiring harness. I dunno if i can post an address of a good website that sells em cuz they're not a forum vendor...but i'll PM it to you.

I hooked up the iSimple. Direct plug in to the harness, controls selection through the stock radio.

after reading several posts on the forum, I went with the spec.dock and its great..I really like the way it sits in the cup holder so that I can reach it and use the wheel if necessary, but still use the bose for skipping songs and volume control. It was about a 30 minute install.

so if i buy the "gm" ipod2car setup it wont work? I have to buy a separate harness?

Isn't there a way to use your ipod wirelessly within ur vehicle? I think it may plug into the cig lighter tho? I thought i saw something like that a while ago in stores..

Guys I just received my spec.dock today and learned something important.

The spec.dock full kit is the EXACT SAME THING as ipod2car + PXHGM4 harness, that's what is included in the kit.

So the only thing spec.dock does is proves the cup holder mount

you can use your ipod wirelessly if you like. you just need a radio transmitter. you can buy those just about anywhere. they plug into the cigarette lighter for power, and they transmit your ipod audio through an FM frequency that you tune your radio to. that's always an option but you sacrifice sound quality big time.

To answer your other question...the GM ipod2car kit is the one you want...you just also have to buy the extra harness. the harnesses that come with the kit are meant to plug into the cd changer wiring that supposed to be in the trunk....but we dont' have that in the Z.

thanks for the input. I have the FM trasmitter. It's ok on our boat, but certainly a loss in sound quality.

Where did you purchase the iPOD2car? Is the +PXHGM4 also a requirement. Someone mentioned the need for an "extra harness" what harness is this?

30 min installation sounds good. Last - what are you paying?

well i got the aux2car setup, and the harness won't fit...So now I realized I will need the "PXHGM2" to hook it up to the back where the cd changer is..

I have the Peripherral ipod2car interface, works great. The PXHGM4 cable will integrate behind the factory head unit.... if you have the trunk mounted CD changer and you want to interface to that harness you will need PXHGM2.

Here's a little how to I wrote up a few years ago...

I got my new iPod Nano in the car last night. I snapped a few pics during the process so hopefully it can help anyone else wishing to do the install.

The interface is a Peripheral interface. When I bought the interface it came with a short(12" Long) adapter cable for the Vette. Unfortunately I don't believe the Z06's have pre-run cables to the trunk. This wasn't a big deal for me as I just cut one end of the plug off(Keeping the end that plugs into the Peripheral unit) and hardwired it to the 2 port plugs found in the passenger kickpanel/footwell.

Step 1:

Take out your footwell panel and your passenger kick panel/door sill.

Step 2:

Locate the 2 port plugs that you need to tap into. Optionally you can buy a harness that actually plugs into these plugs but, I believe it's about $40 or so and then you are left with about a 10 ft. clump of wires and nowhere to run them.

You can solder or use what I call the poke and wrap method. Which is where you cut out about a 3/4" piece of insulation, poke the wire with a test light to open it and then thread the wire through, close it and wrap the wire around and tape it up.

Here is a pic of the 2 plugs you are looking for:

Use this as your guide as to what colors from the Peripheral harness go to what colors on the port plugs.

Plug 1:
White to Connector Brown+White
Red to Connector Green+White
Orange to Connector Black+White

Plug 2:
Blue to Black Connector thick Orange
Brown to Black Connector Black+White
Black (smaller gauge wire) to Connector Dark Green

Step 3:

Remove your ashtray.(Hopefully you smokers don't smoke in the Vette) Take the plug that plugs the iPod into the interface and run it through the hole behind where the ashtray was. Peel back the carpet so you can see the wire and pull it through.

Step 4:

Find location for Peripheral interface. I mounted mine above the fat harness pictured below. It's a pretty tight fit but, I held it up with a few wire ties as well. Plug all your plugs into the unit before mounting. Making sure of course to wire tie all your wires nice and neatly and out of the way.

Step 5:

Double check all your connections and close everything up.

Step 6:

Plug in your iPod and enjoy

Half Open...

Fully Open...

Fully closed WITH iPod Nano inside!

iPod Nano in hand...

Keep in mind that the iPod Nano is tiny. If you have a different iPod you will likely need to choose a different mounting location like the armrest, glove box, etc.

Default Warning to Gen I and II iPod owners.

Please remember as an aside for early adopters. If you have a Gen I or Gen II iPod, meaning it has no bottom docking port, NONE of the above things are going to work. You have to use the generic PXDX and PXHGM2 or 4 harness depending on whether you have a disc changer setup in the car. This stuff from the Peripheral Elec company. Also no control of the iPod whatsoever. Sucks to have the older stuff. But no DRM crap, if you don't know what that is then don't worry about it.

I am planning to hard wire the audio2car interface to the harness in the passenger foot well. Are the stated wire colors for the PXDX model?

I picked up the iSimple kit from Best Buy for $99+tax. The previous and original owner of my '04 Z06 had installed a factory CD changer, so the install took me 10 minutes after I plugged into the harness. Truthfully, most of that 10 minutes was just running the cable from the back to the front of the car. No sweat.

And just to clarify - I don't own an iPod - this interface works for the iPhone, even though it doesn't say the iPhone is supported on the box.

Hi,
Are all c-5 corvettes wired for a cd changer from the factory or is this wiring only done when the car comes with a factory changer. The reason I asked is I have the prev mentioned ipod kit (ISimple) and the guys from best buy said I didn't have a a cd changer wire in place. I would have to go to the dealer and have one installed.
Anybody have any info on getting this done?

Thanks
