Is there a rattle can paint that's an "exact" match for the Pewter factory paint? I am ordering the front license plate insert and I don't want to leave it black. It's small enough that I think I can get a away with painting it myself.
The front license plate surround has a pebbly finish. I sanded mine with 400 grit and finished with 600 grit to get a smooth finish. Bought a spray can of Dupli-Color, Truck, Van and SUV T408 Pewter (it is metallic) at Advance, for about $7 and a can of Dupli-Color Truck, Van and SUV T125 Clear Top Coat for about the same price. After sanding was complete, washed frame with a little detergent and water, rinsed good and dried thoroughly with paper towel. Sprayed 1st coat of Pewter, let dry for about 3 hrs. Lightly sanded again with 600 grit. Washed in plain water, dryed thoroughly, shot 2nd coat of Pewter. I let it sit overnite, wiped with soft, clean cloth and shot the clearcoat. That was a year ago. No chips or peeling and the color, if not exact, is so darn close I didn't have a problem with it.
Cheers

Use a blank white sheet of copier paper and spray a least three coats
to ensure the base white paper no longer shows thru and in no way affects the real color, and let dry.
Set it next to the area to be painted and compare.
Touch-paints even GM brand have slight differences.
Getting ready to do the same thing on mine, ordered my paint from the dealer Friday 4/11/08 already got the insert last week.
Best of luck to the both of us or anyone. Ordered enough paint to do my fuel rail covers too. Good Luck!
