Default Jacking location

I've been plowing through all of the posts on how to get my C5 up on jack stands to do some work, and WOW. How hard could it be to jack up a car? Well, I have not found pictures posted yet that show the exact front positions to use.

Do I have the right place? I have highlighted the place that I think the jack stands should go as item 1. Am I right?

Also, why can't the hydraulic jack lift up the car at point 2?

If you straddle two of the reinforcing ribs at #2, you can use it too. I have used a piece of wood there for that purpose.

Default all jacked up.

Use a 1 piece board & notch out as so not to hit & interfere w/ oil drain plug @ location #2. Good luck.

What are in the middle of the circles at point 2? Lube nipples?

So if I use a piiece of wood to stradle the ribs, I can lift the car from that position? Cool, but according this this post, that is a no-no. A ‘hydraulic jack’ should NOT be placed directly under the CENTER of the cross memeber.

You can jack it and put stands there. It's not too critical. You can just stick them under the crossmember on each side just ahead of the A-arm mount too. Or, under an a-arm bushing.

I think you mean in the circles at the 1 points? Those are the engine mount bolts.

You can also jack or put stands under the rockers just inside the front fender and behind the doors too where the frame is exposed. My jacks won't reach under to the crossmember so I jack on the frame and use a jack on each side till I can put the stands under it.

That is the prefered location on the front. Works for everything except an oil change. Here's some information that may help you.

That diagram gives you about all the safe jacking points on the car.

Here are two threads that show jacking locations, etc. Nice photos.

They are from the C6 section, but they apply to the C5 also.

P.S. Best to use an adaptor (see photos) that places the lifting force squarely at "points 1", otherwise you risk damage to the crossmember!
