Now that I have "Peaches" dialed in at 331 RWHP and 346 RWtorque, I am pretty much set to test her at the 1/4 mile track here in California.
I have never found out the exact specific rules regarding running convertibles at the track. I have heard roll bar needed if a sub 14 second car and then I heard sub 13 second car. I hope to knock off high 12`s.
I'm 99% sure you need the bar if you go 13.49 or faster in a vert.
yes, that is true.
they will let you run into the high 12's around here without much trouble, but dont run in the 11's as I did, that gets you a quick exit from the track.
and my A4 car made around the same power at the wheels.

OK you left to much grey area here, "same power" do you have 3.15 axle also ? Are you saying you are capable of 11`s with "same power", sounds "off" , so would you say what 12.8 or so in my set up is probable under ideal conditions ? What is your average 1/4 E.T. with what mods?

Thanks,

I made 338 at the wheels with:
kooks headers and off road x
tune
yank sy 3500 converter
corsa touring
halltech SSM intake
with a 3.42 z06 rear
on 18 inch drag radials, it went 11.84 @ 115 on 20 inch street tires it went 12.20 @ 116
if you are making 340ish to the wheels with an automatic, you will be in the mid 12's pretty easily.
WOW, thats really impressive ! I got 331 RWHP and 347 Torque on a dynomite machine, so with a 3.15, I should be capable of high 12`s, don`t really know yet though. This also confuses me a little look at all your mods compared to my (click public profile) very modest mods, yet the numbers are that close ? Does Dynomite machines read higher than dynojet machines ? Given my RW numbers above is it safe to guess with my A4, I am at aprox. 407 HP and 420 torque at crank, sure as heck feels like it.

heck; with 3.42's, Predator tuning, Z06 catback, K&N OEM filter, Z06 airlid, wimpy converter upgrade, and everything else stock (including the tires) I got into the 12's on a bad track day;

mine was dyno'ed on a mustang dyno locally that typically reads a little lower than most, plus it was loaded so we could tun in all of the load cells to give a more accurate tune across all engine loads. probably on a dynojet with the converter locked, it might have been high 350's. my bolt on 2001 trans am with almost the same mods except it was a 6 speed made 358 to the wheels on a dynojet.
bear in mind that the 11.8 time was done in probably -1500 density altitude.
in normal air, it would probably run 12.0's all day.
I inmagine all -or most all- tracks adhere to the NHRA rulebook. If they don't... then they open themselves to lawsuits.
from our local tracks web page:
"Kil-Kare Dragway operates as a Member Track of The National Hot Rod Association, NHRA. The current edition of the NHRA Rulebook, including any revisions published in National Dragster, are incorporated into our track rules.
and here's from the NHRA rulebook:
Do I need a helmet, and if so, what kind?
A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle.
When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49
they had a new rule that they tried to push out 2 years ago, and that was if your car was 100 percent stock you could run into the 11.50 range. this was meant for the vipers I think. I tried to tell them my car was stock and they told me no.

You will indeed be lucky to hit a high 12 with your set up on street tires.
Good luck and post up you #s.
Most of all don't get to caught up in the #s just have a good time.

Not slamming you or your ride. Stock A4s with 3:15s are 13.5 cars with a professional driver. They are about 300 + or - 5 rwhp. 25 added rwhp will not in itself knock a 1/2 second off your times.
Keep in mind Mike ran a 12.89 with 3:42s and the East Coast Tracks are Faster then the West Coast Tracks.
The point I was making was to enjoy yourself and not be disappointed if you don't get a high 12.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
