As a C4 owner who is thinking of buying a C5 Z06, I was wondering if the C5's overheat as much as the C4's do??
Any other typical problem areas with Z06's??
It depends. C4s don't have a reputation for overheating either so if you have experienced that problem on a C4 then you may have similar problems on a C5. Both cars are bottom suckers and get road debris pulled up into the A/C condensor and radiator. The C5 won't capture as much dirt between the A/C and rad as the C4 would since the space between the two is open at the bottom. I have seen some C4s that had half the space between the two filled with road debris. Never understood how it got there but it was there.
The C5 cooling system typically runs about 210 to 220 in traffic in hot weather but that isn't considered overheating. Neither the C4 or C5 are 1960s cars.
to answer your quesiton.. I just mvoed up from a C4 to a Z06.. Day two of owning it it had a col. lock problem.. ended up being a bad key ignition cyl. These cars are leaps and bounds above the C4.. get one you can afford in the color(s) you like with the least amount of miles!!
BTW: mine runs significantly cooler than my C4 did (and it had a brand new radiator installed.. no debris or obstructions). I think the cooling system has a tad more capacity designed in to it (unlike the reverse flow LT1 systems).
Do a search on water leaks for fixed roof coops and z06. Many people had problems and they will give you the lokations to look for them. On than this, great car. Prices are also starting to drop. Take youre time and look around.
Great car, easy to work on, part price is not bad, respect on the road, C5 Z06 the best looking vette ever made. I drive mine everyday unless it rains.
