For MPG you need to short shift, skip gears .Drive in the highest gear at the lowest rpm with the lightest LOAD on the motor. This will vary greatly with the terrain. Level or slightly down hill with very light throttle you can drive quite low speed/rpm in 6th gear. You can feel/hear VERY quickly if you are "LUGGING" the motor /drive train. If you're not lugging it you won't hurt it.This motor has lots of low end torque . Just be VERY light on the gas peddle if you are in a higher gear at low rpm. It will pull, that is the concept behind GM's "skip shift" 1st to 4th at LOW rpm,you can get reasonable acceleration in 4th from around 6-700 rpm at modest accelerator feed. 900 to 1000 in 6th is not unreasonable for LIGHT load level or slight down hill light cruising--just don't give it much peddle if you try to increase speed(best to down shift. hope this helps. I manage 20 to 22 city with an occasional bout of enthusiasm. P.S. this is actual calculated mileage,,,The DIC average is usually 1 to 1 1/2 mpg happy
