I think you are mixing up your terms. The black plastic thing that is kinda flattened out and has the C5 Oval with flags on it is called the air bridge, then the next thing connected to this moving toward the engine is the accordion coupler, and this is connected to the throttle body which is connected to the intake. I believe you want to replace the accordion coupler, which you can do without changing anything on the sensor. I've got an 04 so mine is different than your but I think the sensor you are talking about is connected to the air bridge. So unless you are going to replace the airbridge also you don't have to worry about it. If you are replacing the air bridge too and it doesn't have a hole in it for the sensor, you can just cut one into the new air bridge with a hole saw the same size as the one in your old air bridge and then take the grommet out of the old one and put it in the new one and then just plug in the sensor to the new air bridge.

Default sensor in the accordian

hey Larry, Thanks for the reply, but the sensor is in the accordian that I want to replace. Ecklers call that smooth thing a performance throttle body air duct. Since I live down the road from Ecklers I stopped in and even they weren't much help. "B"

I justed looked at my 98. There isn't a sensor in the air coupler, only a vaccuum hose.
Contact Chip at CCA. He'll be glad to help you out.

I believe you, everyone else in the world just calls it a smooth coupler. If your car had the sensor in the accordion coupler and the new smooth one doesn't just do the same thing as I suggested above If it is made out of silicone cut a hold in it the same size and the sensor with something like an X-acto knife, or you could cut hole the same size as the grommet and glue in the grommet with some clear silicone or black if you are using a black coupler.

So there is a sensor that is actually INSIDE the coupler? Is this what the hose is attatched to? What sensor is it?

I just cut a hole in the coupler with a sharp knife and plugged it in

Did my 98 years ago with a SLP smooth coupler. Install your smooth coupler, mark where the sensor goes then drill a 1/8 inch hole. It will then pop right in.

Make sure you have a good tight fit, you don't want a vacuum leak, if you have to you could always put a small bead of silicone around the hose after you have plugged it in.
