hey guys so any help here would be greatly appreciated as i have had a bad day. after classes today i went to advanced and picked up a new alternator because for the past month or so my voltage regulator has been going and earlier this week it gave out all together. after installing the new alternator i started up the engine and checked the volts all it read was low volts all of a sudden the car shut off and i was sitting there with a dead battery once again. i ended up putting it on charge and came back 30 minutes later started it up and watched the voltage go from 10.4 all the way back down to low volts. i am going to go take the alternator to be tested tommorow and i am going to go buy a new plug with the 3 wires that goes into the side of it as it looks like the wires have been exposed to heat and are cracking. does anyone know if the dealership should have this plug in stock? or where else i can get it? if the alternator checks out and i install the new plug what other culprits could be causing this problem? could it possibly be an in line fuse?
I guess it's possible you got a bad alternator, quite a coincidence if the old one was doing the same. The battery could be bad, not holding a charge or a dead cell. Another thing to check is the red wire going from the battery to the starter. If that wire or post is burned or loose on the starter, you'll have similar symptoms. Be careful with wrenches down in there around the exhaust. Disconnect the battery first, but I'll bet you have a corroded/burned/loose wire on the starter post. Post what you find.
