I can't see that happening but some advice would be to not let the clutch out if you actually are strong enough to force the shifter into reverse by mistake. If your brain feels like something is off then keep the clutch in. However, I don't think a person is going to overcome the resistance to get it into reverse while rolling forward.
I just got a 2003 Z06 (today) and I want to know if it is possible to throw the stick into reverse accidentally when downshifting from 6th to 5th?
It's been years since I owned a manual transmission car and for the life of me I can't recall if I should be worried about grinding gears that way.
By the way I just learned that those transmission noises I hear in low gears are normal. Thank God.
Thanks,

The C5 Corvette gerbox has a "Reverse Lock-out Solenoid" which engages at 3 MPH. Assuming the solenoid is working, you cannot select REVERSE when moving forward.
It takes specific sideways effort to get the shifter into reverse, so I think it would be extremely unlikely to happen. I do have a Hurst shifter in my car, but I can't remember if the stock shifter would make it that much easier to access reverse. I've got my car five years and have never come close to that happening.
Thanks again all of you for your thoughts and answers. This one can be put to bed. No worries. Tomorrow I'm snapping lots of pics and I'll officially announce my ownership of my new toy.
