I drive my '02 A4 vert as a DD. I have been considering an '08 coupe as a weekend driver. I would like the extra HP and an MN6.
I really like my C5 but I put a lot of miles on it (soon to hit 70K) as my daily drive is all Interstae and ~74 miles round trip.
I really want another Jeep as my DD so I am considering this:
1) Purchase Jeep as DD.
2) Mod my '02 and forget the '08:
*LGM Off-Road Headers
*CAI
*3:42 Diff
*Stall Converter
*CAM
*Tune
I want the SOP that I hear the diff & stall give. I would like the cam to give me between 350-400RWHP but I want it to be just as drivable as it is today (with no mods).
What do you think I could get HP-wise with these mods (with and without the CAM) and what do you think the cost will be? I would have all work done at LGM - no need for the do-it-yourself answers. I am not equipped or inclined to DIY.
I know there are many CAM models but I am not looking for a monster.
Cam and heads should give you around 70hp. Supercharger about twice that. You'll find the Jeep as a daily driver is a gas hog. Had 2 different models-both straight 6 and got 16mpg The C5 or C6 will both be much better gas wise. As for driving in the snow-forget it. The 3:42 will be the biggest bang for the buck.
For a little more $$ you could probably buy a good used centrifugal supercharger such as a procharger and just bolt it on with no other changes and hit or exceed your target HP range.
Car would drive like stock except when you put your foot into it.

Thanks KWW. As for the Jeep, I have owned three Cherokees (1992,1993,1995) all had teh 4.0L six cyl and all got 19-20 MPG on the highway including my first that had 231K miles when I bought it.
The 3.42 mod seems to be everyone's idea of the best investment.

Definitely worth investigating.
Thanks Independent1. How difficult is it to put one of those on?
My buddy has a '07 Wrangler and can squeeze 19mpg if he is reeeaallly nice to it. As far as mods for the car bolt-ons and gears would really renew your interest in your Vette. I have had 4.10s in my '99 since I purchased it and have spoke to others with gears and most will say that it was an extremely noticeable upgrade.
I would get the 08 Vette for a DD and then put a blower on your C5 and be done with it, comfort and warranty on the DD and then the heart throbbing of boost for your new weekend Vette, best of both worlds and the new one will have plenty of go power over your current stocker to keep you happy

Thanks JJS. I'll bet 4.10s are really a blast! Does yours have a stall converter?
The Jeeps I referred to are Cherokees. I intend to get a 2001 - the last year made. I gave all of my previous Jeeps away to needy extended family members. One now has over 270K miles and still going strong. I love those things.

Thanks Peter Pan. Well, there goes the wife's new kitchen! I would be one LONELY fella.

^^From what I have read it is weekend job. Have to take it to a tuner to have it re-tuned though.
You can probably get a lot better advice and guidance over in the FI (Forced Induction) section. Pretty nice and knowledgeable bunch of guys over there.
Bonnel, note my sig with mods list and rwhp. She drives like stock and runs hard when I want her too. 21st Cent has done all the work.
I have a Jeep as DD now that I have retired my vette from that role with 27,000 on the odometer. The Jeep is a Patriot Limited with a 4 banger; she is an abosolute dream to drive with great gass mileage. You should check one out. My son drives a tricked out Wrangler, neat ride but not a good comuter.
I have exactly the mods you are describing. See my profile for details on my cam etc. The car is very fast and very streetable, nice lope to the cam, and the long tubes with B & B bullets really make it howl. I would do the same mods again. Highly suggested. The only thing I would leave out is the nitrous. You really don't need it on the street. I only installed it to use when I go to the track as an equalizer since everyone else has it.
BTW if you do go this route, I highly suggest an RPM stage IV or V transmission. If not, it won't take you too long before you will need it anyways. I lost the clutch in third. If your trans is marginal, the extra HP is usually enough to finish it off. Since you are planning to do the differential and stall, it's a pretty big job, and the trans will be out of the car. A few more bolts and about $1,700.00 bucks and your'e there. That's the cheapest you will ever get a performance transmission installed in your Vette. I would put the money into the drive train. Besides, you can always bolt on the supercharger when the money is there.
Make that $2,000.00, I guess the prices went up since I bought mine 2 years ago.

Good luck with your decsion process.
Thanks Dark-Knight. Your numbers are impressive. That is what I want-power but feels stock until I step on it.
What kind of gas mileage do you get with the Patriot?

Thanks Rhode Warrior. Is the RPM transmission from the guys in Indiana? I believe they are the ones who can change me from A4 to MN6 and that is another thing I am considering.
