1st time...i was going to GET gas andit said i have 70miles so like half of a quarter tank and it dies...had friend come get me gas filled er up went to store and got more...fuel pump was like surging but then it stopped...weird
Last time I ran out of gas, I was in my Miata, sitting in a left turn lane during rush hour at the busiest intersection in Anchorage. (which honestly isn't exactly as bad as, say, L.A. of NYC). but anyway, I got out and pushed my car from inside the drivers door, so I could steer while pushing, and managed to run over my own foot in the process!
lol yea 1/8 i know ive gotten it down to 20 miles but this time it was at 70
I wouldn't trust the miles until empty DIC thing. It fluctuates based on your driving style as well. I go by the trip meter and fill up when I hit 285-300 miles (mixed city/hwy). It leaves me about 2-3 gallons left over.

I've heard this before where the belief is the fuel pump sucks up whatever grit is at the bottom of your tank and clogs the injectors. However, I would think the fuel filter would prevent that from every getting to the injectors. Personally, I don't think it's true. The fuel pump can be damaged if it runs with no gas. Diesels are a different story when running out of gas though.

that made me laugh.
I have had a 95 base camaro, and a 94 Z28 and they both would run out of gas when the gauge was about 1/8. One time, I actually ran out of gas as i was pulling into the gas station. A couple of guys pumping gas ran over to help me push it to the pump.
The fuel level sensor in your right tank is probably fouled. Put 16-20 ounces of Techron in each of the next three or four tanks of fuel and the erratic, erroneous level reading problem should go away. If you have a Texaco or Chevron station in your area, their fuels contain Techron and you don't have the extra expense. If neither of these options is available, put 16 ounces of Seafoam in each of the next three or four tanks of fuel. Seafoam is available at practically all parts stores.
When you get to the gas station to fill up, put the additive in the tank first and then fill the tank to be sure you get good mixing in both tanks.
I have ran the car out, but i was coasting up a hill (from highway speeds and it was about 1/8 of a mile) at the time and threw the clutch in and coasted into the gas station and filled her right up. Lady luck was with me that day
Yep its a complete Myth. Your fuel filter would catch any junk but your pump cant even suck up that last bit of fuel in the tank anyway to even pump out any contaminants.
Last time I got low on fuel my DIC said RESERVE FUEL.
