I took my 2002 C5 to Chevrolet - door locks not working. Just was told both of them are shorting out - repair bill $915.
Is this a rare thing with Corvettes?
I'd get a second opinion. My ex gf went to a few garages because her high beams weren't working, one estimated $1100, the ther $1300. Told her the circuit was shorted out and they had to replace the wiring.
I checked it out and found out the hi-beams were on a separate fuse from the low beams. $1.10 at Wal Mart and good as new.
Where do you live? A decent electronics tech could help you out for a damn site cheaper than $900 bucks.
I live in Denver. When I bought the car a few years ago I purchased extended warranty. Will check tonight to see if warranty is still good and if this is covered.
It's not a rare thing for someone to try to rip off Vette owners, but it would be very rare for both door control modules to be "shorting out" at the same time. Many times people use that term for anything electronic that isn't working. I'd troubleshoot a little further.
