Whenever I get tires changed I bring them in off the car. When the ask me I tell them they are for an Impala and I avoid the upcharge. And yes they get balanced correctly.
I had an oil change the other day at one of those Texaco owned instant change places. They also changed the rear diff and the power steering fluid. All fluids were full synthetic. Total cost for all this was $210 or so!
I asked for discounts on everything. They also changed the fuel filter/regulator recently. I bought the part and gave it to them and they busted their own nuckles installing it for like 25 bucks I think.
When I bought my Z06 exhaust I had it installed for $45 at an Auto Air Muffler Brake City in Tampa. Those guys are great for installing aftermarket exhausts.
And BTW, anyone can install an 02 sensor. I did my first one when I was 18. If they charge more than 30 for install they are ripping you off. I once had an 82 Camaro Z28 and it ran like crap. The shop next to my high school (1994) pulled the sensor, cleaned it with a torch and reinstalled it for $15!!
I found this guy who I think is as honest as they come. He really ain't much of a mechanic and his repair times are normally listed in days, not hours. He doesn't know a lot about Corvettes but he's learning a ton at the sake of my car. One thing you can count on with this guy is he might be slow, but the job is always done right. You may know him...
Yep, he's me!
If I can learn to work on a car, anyone can. I can't believe how straight forward these cars are put together (minus the heater core job). It really feels good to fix your own ride and I use to loath working on cars.
By the way, that garage floor is now spotless again.
