Hello all, kinda unusual that the fiberglass material underneath the car near the exhaust tips is starting to deteriorate already on my 2002 Z06. Any tips on restoring this to like new condition or should I replace?
I just bought this car used with 8700 miles, and want to bring it up to super clean standards. Also, what would replacement cost be? Has this happened to your car?

That's the message I get when I click your link. I think if you fix the pic issue we can help you better...
Boy, someone here correct me if I'm wrong, but that sure looks like damage to me. Could that have happened from someone trying to raise it with a floor jack there? There are marks toward the front of it that are in a circle that look about the size and shape of a floor jack...

Yeah, I thought it might have been damage too. What is this component, I may just replace the whole thing.
It is the trunk well exterior, from the underside. There doesnt seem to be any structural damage to the piece, just the fraying of the fiberglass it is composed of. And, although it looks like it may have been caused by something like a jack, there are other spots of fraying on the area, not seen in the pic, that lead me to believe it is deterioration.
No lug locks or keys.
Can anyone give a tip how to restore? sometype of coating on the fiberglass to keep further fraying from occurring, then paint?
I have to agree with what has already been mentioned. It is the outside of the fiberglass back storage well. It looks to me like it has been damaged rather than deteriorated. The most common mathod of damaging it would be someone using a jack. I would repair it by sanding it smooth. Be sure to wear a serious mask while sanding underneath fiberglass. Then apply fiberglass cloth and resin. For anyone who has experience working with fiberglass this would be a real simple repair.
Jeff
That is damage ... and a REALLY cheapo repair job .....
You could "replace" the part (GM part number 89022391 with a list price of $1,184.90) but the rear trunk floor/tub is like the first part installed when the body is built .... all the other body parts are built around it.
The labor to actually replace the entire original part would be horrendous .... better and cheaper to find a good body shop that can do a proper repair.

Could someone kindly post the same pic of an undamaged unit (exterior surface of trunk well tub), so I can see what I am dealing with to repair.
This car has a clean 1 owner carfax, I hope that this "damage" is a result of a speed bump, driveway, or something of the like. Somehow I missed it when I was viewing the car.
Thanks again.
