This is a big decision and I need some help. I have been looking to get a c5 corvette for a while now. I test drove a 2002 today with some mods an was very impressed.
This is what was advertised:
"LINGENFELTER stage 1 Z06, 505 HORSE POWER! 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, OVER $7,000 in recent modifications; C5-R adjustable lowering springs, CA intake, Velocity stack, MAFS, ECU, X-pipe, C5-R straight pipe exhaust (sounds amazing!), Borla tips, Lightweight aftermarket wheels, Custom decaling, HUD, limo tint, short shifter, ALL options, LOW 47K miles, $30,500 o.b.o"
The car looked great and drove strong (although I haven't driven one before to compare). He said he'd take 29,000. Is this a good deal. Does it make sense that it'd have 505 HP with these mods? He said he sent of the ECU to be reflashed and everything.
If its a 02 Z with all LPE reciepts and i would consider seriously for 29k, not bad deal, now if its 2001 Z06 with 47k miles on it, prolly i go down to 27k not more than that. But i doubt with those mods it cant be 505 HP.
its a z06.. if you like it and the pricing works for you.. jump on it!
Just because its a Z06 doesn't mean jump on it.My car is 03 and had more than have the miles, and had mods for less money. If it were me I'd keep looking. And to the HP quotes unless its got some killer head/cam pac/blower its not 505hp.........walk away.
Yes it is a Z06. I doubt the stated HP rating too, but it does in fact have the upgrades listed and all were installed on the car within the last 6 months.
I'm in Salt Lake so nice ones of these don't come along often. It is a lot of money for me and I like to get good deals to help justify spending so much. The tires are only 2 days old also, he said they came to around $1600.
Give Lingenfelter a call and see what their stage 1 will do to a Z. I am sure they are talking crank hp, not rwhp. Still sounds a bit high, but if the package involves heads, cam and intake, maybe.
Don't just pass, but don't just jump on it, either. Go hand wash it and take it to a mechanic for a look. Spend a $100 or so, it will be worth it.
Did Lingenfelter do the work? If so, give them a call, they should let you talk to that mechanic. See what he has to say.
As for the price, I think I paid a bit much but it was the right car .
It does not need a stout heads/cam package to make 505hp. LPE advertises flywheel hp, not rearwheel. In this case, 505hp is about 430-445rwhp (depending on conversion factor). If the car has documentation of the mods from LPE, and the miles are low - $29k is a good deal.
I talked to him and asked him to come down a grand. He compromised and came down $500 for a total of $28,500. I'm meeting him tomorrow at my credit union to finish the deal.
I think the car has been for sale for a while. It started out at $31,500. And like I said he just installed brand new tires a few days ago. Another gentleman came from another state to look at it and paid the local shop like $150 to check the car out. He was coming down again this weekend to look at it again, but if all goes smooth in the morning it'll be mine.
My main concern is emissions and inspection. I know the side window tint is too dark and even though it has a cat it has no muffler. He is giving me the original titanium exhaust with it though.
If all goes smooth I'll post some pics tomorrow night
