Got oil change today and the mechanic said i had a small leak in the right rear shock, and i was really shocked when they said that shock cost 800.00, i have the 50th anniversary model i have an extended warranty but it covers only structs, mechanic wrote up structs but when i call back and spoke to the parts department he said is is a shock, this was a chevy dealer has anyone had problems with this it has 62000 miles.
You can install C6Z shocks. They can be had for about $250 for 4 plus shipping.
If your car has the ride control, you'll have to get it turned off so it doesn't throw a code and error message. I'm thinking maybe you do from the price of the shock you listed. If you want to keep the ride control you don't have much choice except to shop around for the cheapest price. It looks like gmpartshouse.com has the rears for around $550 and the fronts for around $700.
C6Z set can be had from there for about $255. They're about the cheapest option for C5 shocks and they work good too. Well, I've seen a Monroe listing for a set they make but I don't remember the details but I think they were still more $$.

$800? You ca switch out to billstein sport shocks for a couple of hundred bucks. BTW, I had a leak in one of Bilsten shocks a year after I bought them and L.A.P.D shipped out a replacement for free. I sent the bad one back.
That wont work. The 03 has F55 shocks, not F45's. The systems are not compatible. If you love the adjustable ride, pay the money and replace the shock. If you really don't switch it much (or notice a big difference) then replace all four shocks with something like C5Z06 shocks, have the F55 programmed out, and call it a day.

Some F55 shocks leaked at much lower mileage. Several owners had them replced during the 12 month, 12K mile period.
I thought these would be covered under GM's extended warranty too - Major Guard - But it says shocks are not covered. That Sucks. Worn shocks are one thing, but a failure in a part is another. http://www.gmprotectionplanonline.com/majorguard - us the 'find on this page' (Edit pull-down menu) and search for 'shocks'

The mag ride is garbage IMO, put a real performance shock in there. You'll get a sportier ride and it will cost far less $$$.

When working properly you won't find a better system. Even Ferrari uses it. However, it does seem to suffer from reliability problems and as the OP has found out, parts are priced outrageously high.
i really don't see a leak right now the ride still seems fine i just wonder if the dealer was after some quick repair so i will watch then probably by the ones on the net, thanks for all the imput

WRONG!
Although it's a decent system
Ferrari- Uses CDC-ZF Sachs ride control. Not the Delphi magnaride found on Corvette.
ZF Sachs supplies the shocks for the FE3/Z06 suspension (non-magnaride)
