Default wheel bearing??

Recently my car (2000 FRC) has developed a kind of wump wump wump noise and slight vibration in the rear end. It goes away while I am turningt left but remains while driving straight and turning right. Is this possibly a wheel bearing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check the torque of the rear axle nuts. You'll need a 34mm socket. Torque is 125 lb/ft.

Hello Fasttimes!

Welcome to the CF Forum. And, in regards to your query, it appears that you may, indeed, have a worn Rear Hub Bearing Assembly Unit. Autozone supplies these very same units manufactured by Timken for the Corvette C5 at a far more reasonable cost than the local Chevrolet Dealership for the very same part. The retail cost for the above mentioned Timken product, today, is around $180 per unit. For your convenience here is a brief informative link:

Could be wheel bearing.

The easiest way to check is lift your car and see if you can pull and push your wheel in and out from the top/bottom of the wheel.

You will feel movement and you can hear clicking which usually means the bearing is gone.

Based on what you said I would start with drivers side rear first. Might be a lucky guess, but I had my 6th bearing blow out on me this weekend at Watkins Glen and I had the same feeling. I knew it was a bearing because my racing CCW will actually just clip my wilwoods big brake kit when the bearing goes, but I had no vibration in the steering wheel and when I turned left it went away.

It is a 5 min check so I would start there.

Default Wheel Bearing??

Hi There,
The rear axle nuts are to be torqued to 118ft.lbs. as per the shop manual.

You are correct, according to David Farmer's C5 torque specs link. The Chev dealer told me wrong!!! Go figure.

Sounds like you definitely need a wheel bearing....Note: You may not feel any looseness in the defective bearing...My right rear on my 99 coupe was tight as can be...but once I pulled it off and spun it I could feel the roughness in it....Installed a new bearing assembly and it was quiet as a mouse...Well, other than the Corsas of course!!!
