Default Thinking about getting a Corvette.......

My credit is finally built enough where I can get a loan for a Corvette I've always wanted. I'm thinking an 03 Z06 is what I want and can afford. I'm kinda new to the whole idea of actually owning one of these cars and so excited about it I don't want to make a mistake and jump into something that isn't what I want. Can you guys shoot me some ideas on what to look for??? Thanks!

Im also 6'4" 230ish lbs. Is this going to be a comfortable vehicle for me??

If your height is a concern, get a coupe or vert...problem solved But seriously...you shouldn't have much of an issue...I'm just shy of 6' and I have to pull the seat forward about 3 or 4 inches to fully and comfortably depress the clutch.

You're going to LOVE the car and the Corvette brotherhood!

Shop around and do a lot of research my friend. Find exactly what you are looking for. There are too many of these cars around to not be a little picky. As far as the 6'4 230 thing...no idea, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

get to shopping . Take one for a ride yourself to see if the hight is an issue. My buddy is about your dimensions and is fine with his. ITs all about the owner though.

Everyone is right, you have your pickings. That is why I have what I do and for what I got it for...later part being pretty dang important.

As far as things to look for, do a quick search for 'issues, recalls, problems' etc. The guys on this site will always be a PM away from helping out.

Also, if you find one you are interested in, post a message looking for a fellow member to take a second look with you; chances are they'll have your back.

Shouldn't have any prob w/ the height/weight situation - just look around & test 'em out. Lot's of good deals out there!

Look for low mileage,**** previous owner. Don't buy the first one you drive. Do a couple hundred hours of reading on the forum first. I wish I had!

Cool deal. Thanks. I just have so much into my truck now and Im not happy with it. Its my first truck. I have a cam, tune, perfomabuilt level 2 tranny, 2800 stall, exhaust, intake, wheels, lowered all kinds of stuff and its just not fast enough. Ha. I have a whipple sitting in my living room waiting to go on. I think Im going to install it here in a few weeks and sell the truck like that. Going to talk to the F&I guy at work on Monday about how much I can get, Im thinking around 25k.

This link shows the guy who designed the interior of the C5 for this reason:

My brother SleeperC5 posted this info not long ago.

Little is it known of the giant at the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, KY.
Wil Cooksey was the plant manager since 1993 and has retired recently.
The C5 interior was built around him. GM figured if Mr Cooksey (a huge man in suture) could fit comfortably inside the C5 other large men would be comfortable. Wil Cooksey made it possible for guys like Ken and others to drive or ride in comfort.
Mr Cooksey brought a lot of change to the plant that benifted not only GM, but it's employees.
Below is a write up of his upcoming route 66 tour.

Route 66 Tour Features Corvettes and Fun
GM VIP Wil Cooksey To Pace Corvettes on Historic Route 66

Bloomington Gold Tours announced that recently retired GM Corvette Plant Manager Wil Cooksey is set to lead 200 of America’s greatest sports cars down America’s most favorite highway, Route 66.

This 100 mile trip back in time will attract Corvette owners from across the country and retrace the Mother Road along the longest stretch left in America. The tour which begins in Kingman, AZ, will head east through the historic towns of Hackberry, Valentine, Truxton, Peach Spring,s and Seligman, home of Angel Delgadillo and the famous Snow Cap Drive-In. At tour’s end, participants will display their Corvettes on Route 66 in downtown Williams, AZ, the last town on Route 66 to be bypassed.
Besides leading the Route 66 Tour, Cooksey will be the featured VIP for the 3-day Bloomington Gold Tours event slated for June 5-7. Participants will have a chance to rub shoulders with Wil Cooksey and enjoy a guest speaker presentation at the finale reception from the future chairman of the board of the National Corvette Museum located in Bowling Green, KY. “We are thrilled to have Wil join us in 2008,” said event owner & coordinator Cindy Bublitz.
Wil Cooksey has had a long and distinguished career with General Motors culminating with 15 years of service as the Corvette plant manager in Bowling Green, KY. In 2008 ,Chevrolet is paying tribute to Cooksey by releasing a Wil Cooksey Limited Edition Z06 Corvette. Each of the 505 editions is signed and numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity.
Corvette owners interested in participating in the Bloomington Gold Tours Route 66 event or either of their longer tours can go to www.BloomingtonGoldTours.com or call (928) 527-VETT (8388) for more information.
