Default Magnaflow 16732 quick review

Quick review of the Magnaflow 16732.....

Ordered a few weeks ago from Arun@CDNPERF (supporting vendor). Took a little longer than I hoped to get the exhaust, but Arun was great about communicating the delay. Would not hesitate to recommend purchasing from him. Exhaust was direct shipped from Magnaflow... wow do they pack it really well. Arrived in perfect condition.

I installed the catback yesterday. Backed up on a pair of Rhino ramps, used my reciprocating saw to cut off the stock exhaust (took about a minute each side). Initially tried to do the install without taking off the sway bar. My advice, remove the swaybar, unless you are really good at puzzles. I could not figure out how to get the passenger side pipe out without removing the swaybar. Total install time was almost 2 hours, but only because I really took my time lining everything up. You easily could do this in under an hour on your back, much less time on a lift.

Have not had extensive time behind the seat yet, but I took the Vette for a spin today. Exhaust is definitely on the milder side. Deep rumble, not at all intrusive at cruising speed. Noticeable drone at 1400-1500 rpm on the highway (hmmm... maybe I'll have to hold off on 6th gear to keep the drone down ). Noticeabley throatier than the stock exhaust, louder yes but how loud... hard to say. Definitely not as loud as the Corsa PaceCars or the Borlas. Just the sound I was looking for in my advanced age!

Very good looking exhaust, through the tips stick out a little more than I thought they would (see pics). May be able to adjust the tips a bit more to pull them in, though there really is not much to adjust.

I came oh so close to ordering the Magnaflows a couple weeks ago. I really like the sound, it's exactly what I'm looking for sound wise, and I probably could have dealt with the mild drone in that RPM range (though that was a minor strike against them), but what killed it for me was that I didn't like the tips. I didn't like how far they stuck out, I didn't really want 4" quad tips (quad yes, but not 4" quads), and I just didn't like the style. I'm very partial to the oval tips (techically elliptical like the tail lights but everyone calls them oval) and I also like the Corsa Pro tips.

I could have bought this configuration and then bought a different set of tips but if I'm going to pay that much money I'd rather just get the right exhaust system. Still haven't pulled the trigger yet because there's just something about every system that I don't seem to like, but sooner or later I'll make a decision lol. Just wish they offered a choice of tips for the Magnaflow like Corsa does, and even Borla has a couple options.

I have the same installed a couple of months ago. I believe mine is a tad louder now than when I first installed it. I love the sound. Exactly what I was looking for. Wife and kids love it too...

I did the same as you because I wanted the deeper sound. Stock system did not sound like a Corvette. I also had drone at the 1400-1600 rpm that I did not like, so did some research and found that you should also replace the stock H pipe with a "TRUE X" pipe made by Bassani or Magnaflow when you put the Magnaflow mufflers on. I did that and now NO DRONE. Otherwise it sounds about the same. It was well worth it.

I too like the deeper sound of the Magnaflow. Nice to know about the X-pipe fixing the drone!!!

Personally, I LIKE the looks of the tips!!

Thanks for the kind words. One thing is apparent to me now... I'm going to need an exhaust filler plate back there!

With the stock black tips the exhaust area just kind of disappeared, but those 4" chrome tips really draw your eye to the void in the middle! I do like how the tips tie in with the polished wheels.

I'm also thinking I need to align the tips better... any suggestions on this are welcome. I was going to stick a level on the bottom of the 4 tips as a starter.

Thanks for the kind words Matt! I'm pretty sure you can get the tips in a bit further-I slide them in the over-axle pipes first with a bit of WD-40 and then mark them with a marker to make sure you went in far enough. I've been praising this exhaust for awhile now-I've tried the Borla Stinger's, PRT's, Granatelli's, GHL's and this by far is the easiest to live with on a daily basis. This exhaust really shines if you have a healthy cam, headers etc. My personal 02 z06 is right around the 900 rwhp mark with healthy F1R and a big cam and this exhaust makes it much more "liveable". It does drone a bit but nothing compared to "other" exhausts out there and at wot sounds perfect, we even pulled off the exhaust and tested it and we did not see any notceable power gains-so we know this exhaust flows! This is the perfect exhaust for those who want something a bit louder than the "Z06" catback. Price is very reasonable too!

I have thought about removing my exhaust filler plate and mount a back up camera. Just a thought.

I installed my Magnaflow X-pipe and cat back yesterday. Having a lift was a HUGE help, and yes, following the instructions helps greatly. I didn't remove the swaybar and the driver's side came right out, but the pass. side would not come out. 4 easy bolts for the swaybar later, and plop, it fell out. I have to stop thinking I know more than they do. The packaging was wonderful, it could have survived a nuclear disaster. I was surprised how mellow the sound was, but that is what I wanted. It smoked for the first few hours of driving (condensation?), but I have noticed that it is getting louder the more I drive it, and I am sure a few thousand miles will have it sounding just right. I would love to find the Corvette emblem plate that a member made to replace the Magnaflow alignment plate (found a picture using the search function, and it is beautiful). All in all, I have NO drone at any speed, so I don't have to worry about skipping 6th gear. It sounds like a Vette should now. And, putting the screens in the rear panel were so much easier without the mufflers being there. I love the exhaust and would definitely recomment it to anyone looking for performance and sound without ruining the ability to enjoy a nice drive.

I have the 15713 system myself. It is a little different in that it has a cross plate that bolts the two sides together and the exit pipes that come out of the muffler body are dedicated. The system costs a little more, but I figured for the "tie in" plate and the dedicated exits it might work a little better. I'm happy with the system, but it really isn't loud enough for my tastes. I wish it was a real head turner, but it really isn't. Ironicly, inside the car it doesn't sound like much of a difference at all, but standing behind it while it is reved up it sounds good. The drone is there, but it isn't enough to get excited about. I like the deep mellow tone (when I actually here it) but other than that I want more sound. I'm kind of afraid to go after it though, because the LS1 does have a unique sound, and in my opinion it doesn't sound as good as an older generation 350 iron block with the old firing order. I almost think that putting on a louder system would just be kind of pointless because to tell the truth I think it would probably just annoy me. Maybe a cam would help???? lol

I did pick up about 15 HP though, and also the system looks awesome. Here's a pic -

Casslaw, JS Machine your 15713 Magnaflows look great! Do you guys have any side or top photos, similar to my shots? I am really interested to see how far your tips extend.

I did re-align my tips last night with the help of a 2' level. They are darn near perfect now. Aligning the tips on the 16732 is a little more challenging than the 15713 due to the lack of the center plate that connects the 2 middle tips. Not a difficult install by any stretch of the imagination.

Since my first post, I have had the opportunity to put some more miles on with the Magnaflows and the drone at 1400-1500 RPM is not intrusive at all. Really happy with this cat-back.

Here are a few shots I just took of the back. Depending on the view, they either look like they stick way out, or not at all when you look at the side shot.

Thanks for the pics casslaw.... your exhaust looks great.

Same effect here, the degree to which the exhaust appears to protrude can be greatly exaggeraterd by the angle of the camera. I am sure the intent is to have the Magnaflow script on the tips just be visible, which is the case with my install.

SJC5 and Mike98Silvert... thanks for your pics... I have been eyeing the pics of Mike's Magnaflow for some time in posts over the past year.
