Ive been a corvette enthusiast as far back as i can remember, most likely the early 90s. I had read about this "corvette wave" here and there in magazines and random internet websites. There arent too many corvettes in the Sea-Tac area of Washington, probably due to the terrible weather. So when i do finally see another vette, within a few car lengths of passing eachother, the other guy, with his hand hanging out the window, waves at me like weve been friends for years. The first time this happened to me, the day before i bought my car (test driving it), a man in a convertible c5 did just that. Instantly i knew to wave back, like it was instinct. I have never seen this with any other type of cars, Ricers, Stangs or anything else. I go on cruises with some other military buddies that own GTOs, SRT4s, 350Zs GT Stangs and your occasional Honda rice rocket. Every time we go crusing and we see another performance cars, theres never a friendly wave, its always a rev of the engine, like saying, my cars better or faster. Why is it, that vette-men (and women) usually dont rev at eachother, where did the wave come from?
Also, you can always tell who is a true 100% corvette enthusiast and not some guy who just wanted to buy a cool fast car. Twice, i did the "wave" to 2 seperate vettes (white c4 and black c5) and they just stared at me as we drove passed eachother?
This has been going on for years with vette owners and Harley riders! Started in '66 with my 1st one - '64 vert w/ 365 horse 327! Wish it were back then! 30 cent a gal. gas time!!
Don't worry about the non-wavers as they are morons. They really should have their Vettes confiscated because they don't deserve them. Here's my wave atcha -
Who knows. Maybe they just bought the car and dont know about corvette etiquette.?
As far as the engine rev....I get it all the time. Corvette owners or non-corvette owners. I find a lot of times its just because they just want to hear the car.
Keep waving, whether they return it or not. I see Harley riders doing their own type of wave to each other just as a true Corvette enthusiast does to another.

I can think of a few instances where I didn't see other Vettes in time to get a wave off (gotta' steer/shift too), so I figure maybe sometime they don't see me either. Just keep up the tradition!
I feel stupid when I don't get a return wave but I also check the car behind me when I do. They must wonder "Gee, how come other Accords don't wave to me"?
Had 4 Vettes never any problem getting a wave from another Vette. I also own a Harley the wave is done to all bikes never had trouble getting a wave back.Unlike Vettes who only wave at each other all motorcycles are one big family we all have respect for each other and all have the same passion.
I did some long distance trucking in my college days and back then truckers did the wave. Once in a while I would go on a trip with my buddy who drives (very nice trucks) and you would get the wave and then hear "thats a mighty fine Pete" on the CB. One of my DD's is a Titan, I have tried the wave in it to the other Titans, dosn't work.
A couple of times my wife and I have been driving along and I'll be looking off to the right as another vette is coming at me with a wave. I don't even see the other vette and suddenly my wife will shout why aren't you waving back!
Of course then there are those other times when I'm day dreaming in my SUV daily driver and I wave as a vette drives by me.

I think you've nailed it here. There are those who just want the car (for whatever reason) and there are those who want to be, and are, a member of the Corvette Community. This later group are the guys who wave, who post on the Forum, and who talk Corvette every chance they get. You are obviously in this group.
Keep the wave alive. Wave even if it's not returned. I do.
I see a black C5 most days on way to work, we wave but its so often now its starting to feel a little weird?? No problem with all others that are random sightings.
The motorcycle wave has been going on probably even BEFORE the '70's when I started riding, and it transcends ALL types of bikes! The people who in many cases DON'T WAVE are the nuevo-riche riders, yes mostly on Harleys, and ALWAYS to people NOT riding Harleys. True, long time running riders wave to everyone.
But amongst cars, the Corvette is unique. Yes people (me always) do wave, but funny thing the same class of people (nuevo-riche car enthusiasts) don't!

that pretty well sums it up.
I've noticed the cycle riders these days don't seam to wave as much as they did when I had to get off in the eighties. when I'm driving my 71 Cutlass I wave at other pre-catalytic converter cars and they usually reciprocate.

I have to disagree with you on this one, There are a lot of great Vette owners out there and very loyal, I wouldn't call them morons because they don't know about the wave, Maybe they don't frequent forums or Vette clubs, I know a lot of Vette drivers that haven't a clue what the internet is. I just think because someone doesn't wave that makes them a moron.
