sorry if this has been gone over before, but i'm ready to buy new shocks for my 98 coupe what is the difference between Bilstiens sport and heavy duty. The car is a DD in the non winter months and it has the base suspenion package right now. Also plan to add ZO6 swaybars and end links
You're right, this topic has been gone over quite a few times, do a search on Bilstein; you'll find a ton of threads. FWIW, I installed C6 Z06 sways & shocks on mine (did C5 Z06 springs as well) and the difference is night and day. I posted pics of the parts a few weeks ago (stock vs upgrade), I think it's titled Shocks & Sways Installed.
The shock that provides the most flexibility is an adjustable shock. I use QA1's. They are more expensive, but that provide enough of a range that you can go with very stiff sway bars and still maintain ride comfort when you want it. http://www.carrerashocks.com/pdf_fil...erformance.pdf
We installed the C6Z shocks on the wife's 98 Coupe about a month ago and no problems. It handles better and we're very pleased, The C6 shocks were a direct fit, no issues.
i only have experience with my original Z51 shocks and the C6 Z06 shocks that are currently installed, did a fair amount of research on the subject after the guys at ECS told me of them and i'm glad i went with them, they offer a comfortable ride and really firm up in turns without skipping over bumps in the road and suprisingly cheap, like $250 for the set
Not to hijack the thread, but leverage it Which shock setup do you think is best for a lowered vette - C6, C5Z, Koni, Bilstein Sport, etc?
I'm dropped to 26" at the fender on the front and somewhere around 27-3/4 at the rear (soon to be lower maybe 27") and the C6Z work really well. To me, they're a great shock for a driver considering the price.
Of course, you may have completely different expectations and need something else or you may be even going lower to the point the C6Z's won't work.

For the person that wants something better without breaking the bank the C6Z shocks are the way to go.
I was the first to test to see if they fit, the first to test on the street and the first to test on the track. Overall I thought they were a very good shock for the street and an ok shock for the track. I ran them for 6 months at various RR venues and they did a fine job. I then went to an aggressive coilover and it is not forgiving. As a matter of fact I opted for a more expensive coilover package that kind of gives the feel of the C6Z shock, but the performance of a much more aggressive coilover when I need it.

I agree, I love my QA1's with z06 swaybars and springs...
I do wish they had the double adjustables (front only i think) when i was buying mine...really need the dampening of the double adjustables imo to make full use of the suspension
not to hi-jack this thread, but Lionelhutz, when you lowered, do you find that the back is supposed to be slightly higher? I lowered mine yesterday, and so far, it's all settled at about 26 in front and 27 in back, about one inch difference. Is that the consensus? The back needs to ride a little higher than the front?
