Yeah, look for the used stuff and take a slow methodical approach to it. It can be done, just not as fast as you've got to wait for the deals.

WTF does that mean? C5 mods on an FBody budget? think you need to look on LS1Tech and see what some of the FBody budgets can buy.why does it have to be an Fbody budget and not just what some of the guys do and SMART shop?

Going for the used parts is not a bad idea. You can get some good buys on quality pieces.

How much are shops charging to just swap in a set of heads nowadays? I was thinking of going with a blower cam, but might throw in a set of heads if I find the right pair for the right price.

You are right, college and mods don't mix. At least you are going to school. Wouldn't be a bad idea to just have some money saved for emergencies, rather than just buying car stuff.

You got some nice stuff already, is it just parts and you still need to put them in? Is that what you are asking?

You do know that the gears in a vette are completley different from those in an f-body right? It requires at least 4 special tools for shimming! Not just anyone can do the gears in a C5! Also, if you bought a gear set out of, or for an F-body.....they will not fit in the C5! Sounds like you need to do a little more reseach before you buy anymore parts!

I'm in the same boat: i just turned 22 and have done all the bolt ons i can think of. The trouble you get into mostly involves one of the following:

- don't have the tools
- don't have the time (especially if it's your daily driver)
- professional installation is time consuming, and many times costs as much as the part(s) itself, if not more.

unfortionatly i'm at the point where any significant gains require dumping at least a grand into the engine and being without my car for a few days. Ideally, I'd like a set of LS6 heads with a decent valvetrain and a mild cam....but that may be a while. Until then i'm sticking with cosmetic and electronic mods.

ok they are for a c5....and i did say i had certified mechanics. some a which strictly for performance.
and not to be rude...but im not asking anyone for permission to look for parts. im simply asking the next few parts i should get. and if there is a known vendor with good prices let me know.
just for everyone else, i have;
TPIS longtube headers
4.10 gears
22X/23X cam

with the above replies im thinking maybe a Var. Intake and ls2 GTO heads next

i have always heard firebirds and camaros are the poor mans corvette. i think thats what he is refering to. those are more common for young people to mod vs. young people moding corvettes because of cost. the vechicle its self and parts

Not to be rude....but just because they are certified mechanics doesn't mean they know how to work on a Getrag diff! Good luck though....hope they like buying the hundreds of dollars of special tools to get the diff right
