does anyone have any experience with either the piolt sport a/s non run flat or goodyear f1 all season? the gs-d3 seem to be back ordered everywhere. will the above work in northeast cold weather. i do use it all year as long as the roads are dry. thanks
I just bought a pair of the Goodyear Eagle F1 all seasons for the front of my C5 last week and so far I'm very impressed with them! I got the chance to drive in very heavy rain the first day I got them and they handled it perfectly. Another nice surprise I've found is that they seem to absorb the bumps a lot better than other tires do, even though I'm running them at the same tire pressure I've run all my previous tires at. I never expected the ride to become more comfortable, so it was a nice bonus. I don't typically take corners super agressively, but when I have pushed the car moderately hard these tires have no problems.
I obviously haven't tried them in light snow yet, but I will get that chance at the end of the year, as I do drive my car daily, winter included. The tread pattern gives me confidence though, it looks like it should have no problem in an inch or two of snow. I previously had Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S tires on there and they got through the snow well, and the Tire Rack survey ranks these new Goodyears even higher in that category.
I just wish I had looked a little closer at these tires last fall when I replaced my rear tires, at the time I went the low price route and went with Kumho ASX, which I found to be quite terrible in the light snow, and they don't seem to hook up very well at full throttle on dry pavement either. I may end up chucking them long before they are worn out just to get some F1s on there in time for next winter.
You're the man I want to talk to! I had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S on the Solstice I traded for my C5. Great tires! I'd love to purchase some for my C5.
Do you feel like you've given up any cornering in warm, dry conditions as compared to the run flats?
I drive my convertible everyday, including the winter. We periodically get light snow here, so I know I want to switch to all season tires soon.
I think these Eagle F1 all seasons might even be better in the dry than the original runflats. The Tire Rack survey seems to agree, the survey results rank the all season an 8.9 in cornering stability, vs 7.8 for the runflat. Dry traction puts the all season at 9.1, vs 8.0 for the runflat. In fact, in every category, the survey puts the all season F1 way ahead of the runflats. And the all seasons are not only cheaper, but lighter too (about 3 lbs less per tire)
I have pilots on all four wheels, the front are non-run flat Pilot A/S the rears are Zero Pressure. They hold the road nicely lots of grip and in wet road conditions. You'll be hard press to break the rear wheels loose. Never saw snow in this vehicle and it likely never will as long I own it. -)
They have about 6-7/32's left and I am looking to replace them with GY Runflat's. The one downfall with them is road noise far more then I've seen from others with GY EMT's!!!
I just replaced my BFG KDW's with GY F1 A/S two weeks ago and I can say that in the little amount of time that I've run these tires (in dry conditions only) that they're far superior in handling and ride comfort to the BFG's. I'm glad the GY dealer talked me out of the GS-D3 in favor of the A/S tires. So far, I love 'em. Can't wait to try them out in the wet.
Would replacing just the rear tires help a great deal with noise reduction? My runflats only have 22k miles on them and it seems like a waste to swap out all four.
