I tried searching for this but it is a tough one to search on.
What is the blue tape that a lot of people use when taking their cars to the track to protect the paint? Is that just 3M Automotive tape? How is that stuff coming off the paint?
I think I am going to the track this weekend and with a white car I figure to be taping the hell out of that thing.
I use "painters tape" that you can get from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. No problem removing it from the car when I get home. Doesn't work very good in the rain.
Go to an Auto Paint Supply store that sells the green tape. It is better than the blue tape as it is designed to hold up to moisture when a car is wet sanded. The stuff I get is 3M 233+ at 2 inches wide. It is about $10 a roll. You can leave it on for a few days and it will still come off easy. Just don't leave it on for 10 days as it gets harder to remove.
Here is a description:
3M 233 Plus masking tape is bright green, high performance crepe paper-backed, rubber adhesive masking tape that is water and solvent resistant, and can be torn by hand.

The whole concept of that "blue tape" is that it is easy to remove without pulling the paint off the wall. Automotive paint is tough compared to wall paint,,so it should come off easily and clean.
