My newly purchased 2001 C5 has a 12 disc changer, supposedly installed form the factory. I filled it full of discs and it shows the discs on the stereo display as I scroll through them, but when I select one, it waits for a while and then displays an err message. It wont let me play any of the discs but it show a little disc icon on the radio display, so it obviously understands that the changer is loaded. Perhaps the lens is dirty?
could be a dying battery, I installed an aux2car which takes the place of the cd changer and it would display an err message after a few seconds, replaced the battery and all was well. Maybe try charging the battery or hook up some jumpers from another car and run the changer to see if that resolves the issue.
yep i had the same thing when i bought my car. as others have said, my error was because i loaded my disks in the wrong direction. I loaded them how all of my other cd changers had been in the past, but this one loads them in the other way with the label side facing down.
Aside from the obvious (wrong side up) sometimes the dics get jammed. It's a bitch to get out. I use double sided tape on a thin flexible stock of wood to extract it.
Another hint: If a dics is stuck/jammed the carrier (the piece that holes the 12 dics) will not retract up and out. Take a thin piece if flat metal stock and press down between the carrier and the case in the middle on the side facing the rear. There is a tab down there that when pressed will cause the carrier to rise up.
