99 coupe here- almost same as a vert but w/o the top probs! (unless you don't latch 'em!

I'm 63 w/ a bad leg and the vette is the only way I'd travel!! 71 K and going strong!! Not sure if Wally World shoppers like me displaying my handicap tag though!!

Hey Steve..bought my 99vert mn6 last year. I end up in Key West every
winter but this time took a LOOOOOONG drive to see old friends and do some geneology searching in Pa and New England before heading south. Ended up driving over 4000 miles. Vet purred like a kitten roared like a lion a few times and was a comfort to drive. Go get it!!

I have a 98' and haven't had any problem with the top, as far as the ride goes. All I can say is WOW what a great ride, we took the car on the 2003 Corvette Caravan and I can honestly say I have never had a car that is as comfortable as my C-5.

I'll be 51 in July....Been a C5 owner since 2001 (coupe and convertible)...Im 6'0 220...drove my Vert non-stop to Bowling Green last year (23 hours straight...stopping only for gas and food)....I havent driven my coupe on that long of a non-stop trek, but the cars are pretty much identical...both are automatics with 3.15 gears...The coupe of course has more storage than the vert, but unless youre packing for a very long trip, the vert is fine....However, if you put the top down on the vert you'll lose cargo space.....Dont pack with the top up if you plan on dropping it during the trip!!!..Same goes with the targa-top on the Coupe.....

Buy it, You'll like it! I'm almost 60, bought our '02 Vert new and can drive the car all day or all night (better). I would echo Randy's suggestion that for the cost difference between pre '02s and '02-'04s (read, not much) The 5 ply top and a couple of other updated systems would sway me to buy an '02-'04 model year. I'm in the market for a MN6 C5 Vert for the Wife in the near future. NOTE; You can always update a pre '02 with a later 5 ply top from a salvage yard. I also have not heard of an '02-'04 Vert losing it's rear window, but I have seen it happen to an '01 with a 3 ply top. Good luck with your search. And welcome to the hobby/lifestyle.

Gotta say I'm just getting ready to hit 48 and bought my 2nd Vette. Had a 71 a few years ago and just bought a 2001 vert. I'm 6' amd 220 lbs. and bought it almost 1000 miles away. Flew out and drove it home. Gotta say it was a plesent surprise. Verry comfortable over the entire 2 day trip. I have put a little sound deadner in it since then and enjoy it even more. Last road trip was to Burbank to pick up my daily driver SC300. THis trip was just as much fun. The top is still in great condition with only 1 slight rub mark on the side. They did some small changes in 01 so I would definately go 2001 or newer.

Thanks for the info. Your car is beautiful!! I'm taking my time searching. There's a lot out there but I'm trying to find one in tip top shape if possible. I'm in no rush right now. Best of luck with your car!! One of these days I'll post my pics on here.

My '01 Vert has been the MOST comfortable car I've ever driven on a trip. With a new set of Michelin A/S ZPs I did a 2100 mile trip to STL with a stop in Bowling Green. I could sit for hours and drive.

I'm looking forward to an upcoming 4000 mile trip to NM this winter.

At that is with the Z51 option too!
