Default Exhaust difference year to year

I'm looking to get a correct stock set of mufflers/tailpipes for my '98. Were there any differences in the exhausts from '97-'04? I thought I heard they changed the tips at some point.

The main difference that I know about is from 97 through 2000 stockers had single wall tips that were painted (or coated) a dull satin black. 01 on they had a chrome tip cover welded on over the inner tip.

ZO6s have a titanium muffler with chrome plated tips. Stock 1997-2000 mufflers look bad imho

The mufflers were basically the same (except for the Z06 titanium ones) - but in 2001 they stuck some chrome tips on the exhaust.

There seems to be several different tip types even for the same year, I have a 98' with chrome round tips yet I have seen several chrome oval tips. It almost seemed to depend on what time of the year your car was built.

that is incorrect.

1997 through 2000 had non-chrome tips; PERIOD. Nothing else came down the production line. Anything different now (especially 8 years later) are either owner-upgraded 2001 (or newer) OEM catbacks, aftermarket catbacks, or aftermarket add-on tips.

Aftermarket add-on tips are/were a popular upgrade.

your 1998 does not have the exhaust that was installed at the factory. It's been changed or modified.

Yep, I put Corsa Hot Tips on my 1998. I don't like loud exhausts, but I could not stand the way they looked.
