Default mgw shifter installed.

well got my new mgw shifter yesterday and installed it. all i can say is damn that thing is short!!! i have a pro 5.0 w/ a short stick on my trans am and this thing is even shorter throwing than that. it is literally click click into every gear. i like it but i would warn people that the left to right is pretty stiff and fifth gear you have to get used to getting it into. the quality though is outstanding. one cool little thing is that it came w/ a dvd w/ install photos to help you. i'm very mechanical savy so i didn't need to but for the other people who may be nervous to try this i was very impressed they did this. anywho just giving me feedback on this because as of late a lot of people have been looking into getting it.

What shifter did you replace? Stock or another aftermarket? Also are there adjustments for the stiffness? Did you have to replace your boot?

Did you ever drive a vette with a Hurst shifter? Just wondering on the comparision of the short shift & stiftness of the MGW vs the Hurst.

no i have not. drove plenty of f-body's w/ hurst and b&m this is by far the stiffest shifter i have ever felt. but the clicks into gear are absolutely amazing it barely feels like you move it at all into gear.

It will loosen up a little bit as you use it - but not much. You have to pay a little more attention to your shifts but once you get used to it - it's phenominal!

MGW sells just the shift **** as well right? Glad to hear you like it btw as this is on the short list of things to do for me. Wonder if the boss would be able to handle the stiffness.

MGW has a longer shaft available for about $20. It helps on the stiffness, but not enough for me. I got some light springs from Home Depot and now it's better. I still plan to do the anti-venom mod to hopefully make it even better. I posted more details - do a search on MGW and I'm sure you'll find a bunch of info.

P.S. The Pro 5.0 I had in my 87 Mustang was better... and the Hurst Competition Plus I had on my '68 Vette was the best - but that was on a Muncie 4 speed and had outside arms.

If you have not done the anti-venom mod you might want to consider doing it. It should significantly reduce the amount of force you need to shift.

What is this anti venom mod? I guess I could search too.. but doesn't seem like it would be bad information to have in this post. Thanks ahead of time!!!
