So I wash the car, flush out the wheels and calipers of any brake dust, clean it up and drive it and after 4-5 days I get a slight squeal from the front brakes which goes away after the next washing and rinsing cycle. Car only has 11k on it and most of those miles are highway so I don't think the pads are shot, any ideas on what causes the squeal??? 2002 EB Z06
Stock pads squeak under light braking. It's the pad compound. GM even mentions this in the Z06 owner's CD I believe. The only way to change that is to switch to ceramic pads, but you will lose some amoutn of braking power.
If you were going to replace them what would u suggest and what % loss can I expect???
You bought a performance car ..... in fact one that has little sound deadening to save weight (increases acceleration AND brake performance) ..... one that Chevy installed a slightly thinner windshield in to save weight and gain performance in acceleration AND braking ....
If you want to drive a nice quiet car with no ***** ... go buy a Lexus .... if you want to drive a "track ready" performance car on the street .... put up with a little brake squeal under light "*****" braking ..... To eliminate the squeal ???? Be a man and STEP on that brake pedal ....

You can replace them with GM ceramic pads. Z06 calipers are the same as all C5s, FYI. These will be fine for the street, but you'll need to change them to stock or aftermarket for any track time.
