Default Ruff Racing Wheels 281c ?

I purchased a set of the 281c's and they look great, I do however have two questions, One: I have had them balanced three times and still have a vibration that I can't seem to get out at around 64 to 70 mph, anyone else had the same problem with these wheels, any suggestions on what the problem may be? Two: when I purchased the wheels VQ told me to clean them with light soap and water and not to use detail spray or anything like that, a couple of the wheels have what seems to be a haze on them that I can't get out, I don't know if it's the clearcoat going bad or what the deal is, but I find it hard to believe that you shouldn't use some kind of cleaner or polish on a chrome wheel, anyone using anything on these wheels other than soap and water? Has anyone had any other problems with the clearcoating on these wheels? Any help would appreciated.

I had the same problem and I thought my wheels were ruined, but then I bought Eagle One Chrome & Wire Polish for chrome wheels and now they look awesome. If it's not a defect, then the polish should work. As for the vibration, did you check your alignment? That will sometimes cause vibration at higher speeds. Also, did your wheels come with the proper spacers? I don't know if this would cause vibration, but VQ sent me spacers to use with my Ruff Racing wheels and I've had no problems.

If it ends up being a defect, I'm sure VQ will send a replacement or work something out...Their customer service was excellent when I dealt with them.

Good Luck!

I agree...throw this "balance" question at Rickie at VQ, I've had nothing but excellent service with them!

Have you had them checked on a Hunter Roadforce balancer?

Thanks for the info. I didn't use any spacers VQ told me that I wouldn't need them and I have not had any problem with them fitting, I'll check the alignment and I'll give the Eagle one a try. Thanks.

You will need to have them balanced with, I think this is right, a finger balance with the hunter balancer. I had mine done at Discount Tire and have had no problems with vibration. The finger balance uses the lug holes to balance the wheel instead of the center hole. Good luck.

Yes I got it taken care of after getting them balanced 4 times, I took them to my Corvette tech and he got them balanced correct, I should also mention that he sets up race cars all the time and he said that an alignment would not cause the vibration that I was getting the vibration was in the steering wheel.

Only problem wit mine was I needed no spacers when I had the stock rotors and brakes. After I installed a set of rotors and Hawk ceramic pads I needed to add 1/8" spacers. Now I too get the vibration at 65 - 80 MPH. and now I get rubbing on the front left tire only when turning hard right. Weird!! Rickie, anything I can check on, maybe the mechanic srewed something up? had no problems before the rotor and brake install!!

I just took a trip to Vegas (4.5 hours from where I live) and reached freeway speeds with no vibrations. My car has 281's in 18/19 with 5 mil spacers. No problems with turning, freeway speeds, or anything else in the month I've had them on. I preferred something that didn't need spacers but for such a good deal on a set of wheels that look great I'll go with them. They're small ones anyway.

Sorry to here that. Thats what i tell all of my potential customers, that with aftermarket whatever on the brakes, they need spacers (or might) then they say im full of *&^% and dont belive me. Im glad you were able to point that out for other to see. What kind of spacer did you use? hubcentric or not? You can PM me all the info if you would like, might be better since i will have to ask you a few more questions so i can better help you.

Thanks again,
