how do you get rid of the road noise.i can hardly talk to my wife.( ya i know that can be a good thing lol). most of it seems to come from rear tires.any ideas out there.its a 99 c5 by the way. ed
I took a roll of frost king self stick duct insulation ( bought at Lowes) and put it on the inside of the rear inner fender well. It was an easy install only 6 or 7 screws I think to removed the fender well. Oh ya.. you have to take the tire off first. You can also put some behind the seats under the carpet. It made a fair difference.
If you have GY Runflats on. Changing tires is going to make the biggest change in reducing road noise. I put Firestone/Firehawks SZ 50, They are a runflat tire. It was like I had a new car to drive. I can hear the radio and my exhaust now. I'm very happy with them.

with both posts. Runflats will make you deaf. They also contribute to almost all of the "bump steer". Dump them. Stuffing the rear compartments with towels helps with the road noise too. Until the S/O starts screaming about "were are all of my "good" towels"? Then it gets loud again.

If you still have the runflats, switching to non-runflats can do the trick. Also, different runflats can make a noticable change - I run the Firestone Firehawks and they are pretty quiet. You can install some insulation under the carpet that will help also.
If you wanna completely get rid of road noise, your best option (although probably not the cheapest) is to go buy a few rolls of Dynamat. It's a pain in the *** putting it in tho, as you have to remove both seats, the carpet, etc, until you hit bare metal. Also, you have to remove the door panels and put it in there too. If you do a good job applying it, there should be no road noise at all. It's amazing what technology will help out with these days

You will never eliminate all road noise. Just the tires making contact with rough roads will put some road noise in any car - but you can definitely improve upon what you have now.
After I installed in around 7 rolls of frost king AND 3 rolls of Dynomat extreme (in the floor boards, rear tub and in rear wheel wells) the car was much quieter but not silent. Now I notice the wind noise outside though the closed windows/clear top (maybe it’s the mirrors?) that i did not notice before (could not hear over the road noise before).
I am happy with the improvements I have made – maybe you will be too!
Just bought my vert a few weeks ago and could not believe how much interior noise there was. Tore out the inside (It really is not that hard) and put 100 Sqft of damplifier in the back over the wheel wells, in the passenger compartment and in the doors. Even with the Goodyear runflats on, the noise is now quite livable with. I can have a conversation with the wife, hear the radio at low levels, and talk on the cellphone when I have to. The only time I ever hear the exhaust is when the right foot goes down.

Great stuff! I am curious though. Can you still hear the rumble of the exhaust at idle with the windows up?
