This evening I test drove a 2003 Torch Red Z-06 that is for sale locally. For various reasons I believe that I am going to pass on this particular vehicle, but I noticed that when looking in the trunk there are two wells directly behind the rear tires. The well on the passenger side has an elastic strap in it. Does anyone have any idea what the purpose of this strap is. The salesperson told me to keep stuff from rolling around, but the well seems pretty small to worry about stuff rolling around in it and there wasn't one in the driver side well...guesses or plausible explainations?
Also, can anyone tell me exactly what options were available on the Z-06 in 2003, this car didn't have a telescoping wheel, seems like that would make the car a little more comfortable for me to drive.
the strap is for the tire repair kit. It has some repair fluid and a powered pump. Mine was missing too. There is a sticky at the top of the forums that shows all options and upgrades.

If comfort is really what you are looking for a coupe or a vert might be better choice, as the Z06 was made for "go-fast" , it's louder as well.
Not to discourage you ......I do find the Z06 a very comfortable car but I bought it to drive it 140 mph on the track and for Autocrossing.
I would not have bought a modern vette (ZR-1 excluded) until the Z06 came out. I highly recommend it

As mentioned, the strap holds in the tire inflator kit. Apparently it is missing on this particular car. The kit is "required" because a Z06 does not have a spare tire. If you get a flat tire on a Z06 you have two choices ..... use the "kit" to temporarily inflate and plug the tire .... or call a tow service to take you to a tire shop for repair.
If you are looking for a "comfortable" car with options like telescoping steering, or a multi-disk CD player ..... DO NOT buy a Z06 ....
The Z06 is designed as a "stripped down track car" .... many options were left off ..... power antenna .... fog lights .... sound deadening .... all in the pursuit of performance.
Sure, you can add back much of what was "left off" .... but what's the point ?????
The Z06 is a perforrmance car ... it is not meant to be a car used, after you glue on your toupee, to pick up chicks .... get a Coupe for that .... it is a car built for you to take to a race track (road course) and find out if you have two *****, one ball, or no ***** ...
C5 Z06 essentially only had 2 options - exterior paint colour and a choice black or mod-red (black and red) interior.
There was also the choice of side mouldings, and I do believe a few folks got them delivered without the memory package, and I think some 2001's may have been delivered with a casette radio ibstead of CD radio - but thats about it.

Thanks for all the infomation guys. I know that the Z-06 is really an inspired sports car so I know that it won't have all the luxury features. I really don't mind the lack of sound insulation, firmer ride, and lack of things like preformance sound systems and seat warmers. I just felt that the steering wheel should be closer to me. Maybe I have freakishly long legs or freakishly short arms
I wouldn't even ask for power telescoping, just some telescoping. How much weight could that have added? I mean for christ's sake the Porsche GT2 has a telescoping wheel.
The Z-06 that I drove yesterday was wrong for me on a number of different levels; ie asking price, color (although I do have to admit that the Red looks very nice), obvious paint work on the back (overspray on the inside of the trunk decklid) etc. The prices that I have seen on this forum are LIGHT years ahead of the price that the dealership was asking on this one.
Maybe a 2002-2004 convertable is more my cup of tea, I will have to drive one and report back. Till I find the right car, I will keep on looking.

Don't jump at something that's not right for you, or that is not a good car. There are just too many really nice cars out there at reasonable prices. I just bought an '04 Z06 Silver/black, 18K miles, for less than I paid for an '03 just two years ago. It was a one owner car, in perfect condition, looked like it just came off the showroom floor.
GM made a lot of Corvettes, and a lot of them are Z06s. If you want a convertible, you can find them. Same for the Z06s. Look around, check the listings here under C5s for Sale, and you can find yourself a nice car at a good price. Be careful with dealers, especially the used car lots. There are just too many good cars out there to get stuck with a bad one or one that is not exactly what you want. When you find it, you'll know it.

A convertible would be my second choice. I know a few guys that race theirs and with some time and mods they've shown it can be made into a great performance car. Good luck with your search, the most exciting part of being a vet owner IMO
