Anyone have any experience with the A4 shift **** adapter? So you can install any aftermarket shift **** of your choice. How was the install? How was the height?
OK, I know this thread is old as the hills, but, I can see it works and that is great, but no one spoke to the functioning and firmness of it.
Does it feel solid and firm and work well. Something you can actually use and not have to be carful not to have the **** come off in your hand?
I put an aftermarket **** on a car a few years back and it looked good and worked but if I was not carful it would twist or come off if I pushed up instead of perfectly forward.
I just want to know if it is solid so if you were shifting in say a 1/4 mile run you can and not worry about it being loose or coming off. Thanks if any of you can answer this for me.
It has been around a long time but so has a lot of things that do not quite live up to expectations...lol
PS, I hope it works, I already ordered it and a **** anyway...lol

I've had mine installed for 15 years and it hasn't really been a problem as far as it's function. If you follow the install instructions, I wouldn't expect there would be any issue. Operation is just a simple push down rather than pressing a button but it's intuitive.

I don't think it feels any different than a stock shifter. There is no looseness or wobble.

I've held on to the shift **** for dear life a few times and it hasn't ever come off ; - ) I think the weak point in this scenario isn't going to be the shift ****, it's going to be the stock A4 shifter (I would have killed for a dual gate shifter setup like the 69 GTO had).

I've had mine for the past summer. I had to drill out the adapter to make it fit over the stock arm. Many threads on here that suggest the same thing. Now this could be an installer error, but after doing so, the set screws that came with the adapter were too short and it did allow my shift **** to lift off whenever I wanted to. Quick and cheap fix was to run to my local Ace Hardware and pick up some longer set screws. Ever since then the **** is nice and tight and no problems. There is a slight side-to-side turning motion I can do with it, but nothing that causes it to lift off.

Sound good, I have already thought about if I needed to drill and tap it to add another point to tighten it and also if I needed a heavier spring based on my feel for changing gears. I will not alter it at all until I get it installed and see how it is, hopefully it will be just right the way it is. Thanks for the info everyone.
