Default Got the car lowered today!

Well after a LONG ordeal today I finally got Nicole lowered. Thanks to the guys at LG Motorsports, they were very accomodating and friendly, and even cut me a deal on the lowering price. They also did a transmission fluid change also with Redline for me. Here are some pics for reference. It's only lowered on stock bolts, got the PERFECT stance for me

Job took even less time than was predicted!

Now the bad news. Well after I got it aligned, which took about 4 hours to find a place to do, now I hear this noise which can best be described as a clicking or knocking noise upon very easy acceleration, but I haven't noticed it when going highway speeds, just around parking lots and such. I poked around the car to see what it could be. I noticed that it only comes from the rear of the car. And I can reproduce the sound simply by pressing down on the rear fenders of the car, just above the wheel housing. Anyone know what this could be?

I thought about that, but I don't think it would make a noise though. I've had a car with completely failed shocks, and they made a squeak not a sound like metal was touching. However this car is much different than the other one so hopefully someone can chime in.

Hi Alex -

Your car looks just right!

The folks at LG are awesome, the sure treated me right.

RE: the clicking/knocking noise the alignment, I would be under there to check and see if anything is contacting the halfshafts etc.

Also look at the sway bar mounts, brake line hold-down clips on the rear cradle.

IF you live close enough, go back to LG and see if Sean can get it up on the lift to investigate.

Thanks for the pics!

best regards -

The guys out there are very helpful, but it's a pain trying to get an appointment to fit around my work schedule. Just a product of their great success, ALWAYS keeps them busy out there. I'd like to go back out there and see. But that is pretty far from where I live and God bless these ridiculous gas prices and tollways. I may go back out to the alignment shop and see, if they can't find it, then back out to LG or maybe Corvettes of Dallas can take a quick look around for me.

Based on what's been stated, do you think they would have just broken off completely? I didn't think lowering the car would have made such a drastic change. I gotta ask because of all the threads I've noticed about other people lowering their cars, not once have I seen someone state they had trouble like me . Sigh.

Hey Alex,
the car looks great in it's lowered stance.

I don't think lowering it on stock bolts and having it aligned should be such a big deal. It should not cause something such as a bushing to fail.

If you did no other mods and you did not have this issue before the alignment, I would question what they did at the alignment shop.

Good luck with solving this problem. If I can be of help, let me know.

BTW,
forum member Chriswtx lowered mine, installed new Bilstein sport shocks and Z06 sways all in the same day. No issues at all.

Not saying that to be mean, but lowering on stock bolts is not that big of a deal.

Now that you have lowered it, it looks great by the way, get some new shocks. The stock shocks are made for the car stance before you lowered it. The will not have the same travel and hence not as smooth of a ride. Get some Bilsteins shocks. They are shorter and will really smooth out the ride and are better when cornering also. Just my $.02

I didn't think it would be that big a deal Cozmo LOL. Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll just have to take it back there and see. However I walked outside in the lovely 90F Texas sun and watched the whole process from a few feet away. Seemed pretty standard procedure.

Why is it always something?

I'll try to get some pics of the undercarriage in this weekend, maybe I missed something. Too dark now though.

As said before, Don't think it is your shocks, Mine is lowered on stock shocks and have no issues. I would go back to the shop that last worked on the car when you noticed the noise and have them check it out.

when you jack the car up the suspention is, for lack of a better word, stretched or hanging down. After I lowered mine & got it back on the ground there was a noise as you described in the rear. After driving it a while & letting it sit a couple of days it went away & all is fine. I just think it needs to settle in. Good luck.
