I was just driving along in my home town and saw the officer on my right, just sitting in a parking lot facing the traffic.
As I was passing I could see he was looking right at me, I said to myself "please dont pull out, please dont pull out", sure enough, I glanced in my rear view mirror and the chase was on.
Well at least he was kind enough to let me off with a warning.
Front plates are just so dam ugly
Anyone make a good product that would dress them up at all?I'd hate to put a "bare" plate on, maybe a smoked cover?

Since this hasn't yet been moved to another section I'll go ahead and reply. There are a handful of various products and solutions ranging from spring loaded devices that tuck the plate under the car and pop it out when you want it, to permanent mounts, etc.. The cleanest solution I've seen with my own eyes was on Keith's Z06 at LAPD, which I believe was a front license plate smoothie, or something similar to it. It's basically a piece of trim that you can buy to match your car color that covers the outer edges of the license plate mounted front and center on the car. The finished product looks very nice and really doesn't detract from the overall appearance of the car. Here's a link to the product at Corvette Central, though you should check around for best pricing: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050C.
As I mentioned, there are other spring loaded solutions which allow you to mount the plate off to the side and stash it under the car when you don't want it visible, and yet others that allow you to easily remove the plate altogether, it's all about what you want. If you plan to keep the plate there permanently then I'd go with the Smoothie or whatever Keith used if it wasn't a smoothie.
I tried one of the retractable plates and it looked likt S--T on a C5. If you want to try it come and get it. If you like it I will make you a great deal. I have been known to like Jose Cuervo. I mounted my plate on the lower air dam and you can see most of it and I have not been bothered locally.
Decent thread for buying the u-shaped filler from a dealer and painting it to match. Looks good if done properly. Just make sure dupli-color makes your color first. If you go with any other paint you will end up paying as much as a prepainted one. I'm pretty sure the Part no. is10288541. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2001999
move to a state where a front plate is not required., I don't see the big deal to have it on, doesn't take away the look., and will keep you legal..., I have the plastic clear cover, looks nice.

Smoked or even clear covers are not legal in Illinois...

even if a cop is bored enough to care or notice, or an A*hole to give you a ticket, its a non moving violation and doesnt effect insurance. its like a tint ticket.
i dont care how many tickets you give me, i'm not putting a front plate on my car, or taking my 5% tint off. so there.
Here is what I have done in the past, I hate to ruin my cars with a front liscense plate they look terrible.
I keep the plate behind my passenger seat then when I get pulled over I throw it up in the windshield not once have I been given any trouble about it, it is on the front of the car so I am compliant , mostly lol.
Hey Maverick, I see your Vette up and down 157. I also drive 157 every morning around 5:45am and back down around 4:45pm. You have a sharp ride man.
Hey redVette..Thanks! Yours looks great too! Yep, I DID see you the other day on my way to work, you were over in the right lane. I work at DFW and go that way about the same time
...I'm up in Bowling Green, Kentucky right now for the Cruise-In IX, but we're heading home tomorrow morning...PM me, you ought to come to the Rosa's GTG on Wednesday nights...good bunch of guys and we all have a good time

LEOs are wise to that trick in MD - $60 fine. Most here are biting the bullet are running the front plate - not worth the hassle or the $60 just for the look factor...that'll buy a tank of gas!!!
At least your car's white so the front plate sorta blends in. My wife's '98 C5 conv. is black so the white front plate stands out like Bucky Beaver!!!
you must live in wyoming! been pulled over many times for the same thing. always get let off. still a hassle. good luck locating a bracket that looks good
We have to run with a front plate in MO. You can not have any object over the front of the plate due to taking away from its reflective ability; at least that's what I was told when getting a ticket. I asked about the windshield display and was informed that's also considered an improper display of tags and will be considered a fine. We can only dress up around the plate.
Well, I had two warnings and have paid a $110 fine to because I hated the look of the car with the front plate on. Until, that is, the manager of the body shop at my local dealer made me one of these:
He will do one-off's for people or will do a group if anyone is interested. PM me for more if you like.
