I am going to change out all my fluids soon. I need to know where I can dispose of the old stuff. I always take my oil to autozone. What about the brake fluid, diff oil, trans oil, coolant, etc?
And I don't want hear anything about a hole in my back yard!
Everything but the coolant should be able to go in the recovery tank at the parts house. Coolant should be able to be dropped off at the "stealership" or maybe a quick oil change place.
EFNFAST, oh that's funny. I know you're joking but an acquaintance of mine stopped off at a WaL Mart after we had spent 5 days at the races in our motorhomes and he dumpped his sewage tanks into their rain run off drain.
Cop saw him and that cost him $10,000. A real drain on the 'ole wallet.
I was wondering too. In my experience, the places I take my fluids to seem to b*tch about them being mixed. Like I would have a container with several different types of oil all mixed together, and they would fuss because it wasn't "pure" used oil. -I mean like gear oil and trans fluids and motor oil all mixed together.....WTF???
Where I live, we have a county operated recycling center that will take just about anything. You do, of course, have to segregate your stuff. But as others have said, most auto parts stores have to accept used oil, since they sell it in the first place.
I managed to get a hold of several 5 gallon pails from where I worked. Floor sealer originally came in them, and the maintenance staff rinsed out the pails and tossed them in the trash. I rescued them, and put my old anti-freeze in them. When I fill up 2-3 of them, I'll lug them out to the county recycle depot.

They have a reason to fuss; used oil has specifictions that allow the recyclers and the oil handlers to re-refine the oil and use it again for other purposes. If the oil becomes contaminated with other oils or wastes that throws the oil out of spec, it must be disposed in an incinerator. They have to pay a lot more for incineration than for recycle. The EPA has set the specifications in their regulations, and they are checked by the oil handlers. So, do the environment a favor, don't mix the oils.
Every thing but your coolant is oil based, and waste oil is re-refined,so just run it into the same container and take it to any of the big name parts stores that recycle oil.
I've found the local AUTOZONE and CHECKER tanks are usually full when I have waste oil/fluids to dispose of.
The oil change companies like OIL CAN HENRY or JIFFY LUBE always have room for it...
Our town has a toxic waste collection depot. Also most of our garages take the stuff usually no problem. The ones that do not want to take it willingly usually find it at their door in the morning anyway. Shhhh!
