I need a paint chip and scratch repaired / repainted on my right front fender, and have some chips and scratches on various parts (hood / rocker panels / back hatch / rear fascia) of my 2000 Navy Blue. This morning I went by the local Chevy dealer bodyshop for an estimate for the front fender, and just asked what it would be for an entire repaint. I was pretty surprised when the estimate for a repaint was $2600
PARTS (emblems) 128.30
BODY LABOR 13.0 HRS @ $ 40.00/HR 520.00
PAINT LABOR 30.5 HRS @ $ 40.00/HR 1220.00
PAINT SUPPLIES 650.00
SUBLET/MISC. 10.00
----------------------------------------------------
SUBTOTAL $ 2528.30
SALES TAX $ 778.30 @ 8.2500% 64.21
----------------------------------------------------
GRAND TOTAL $ 2592.51
That's a pretty low estimate... If you don't mind paint lines and overspray it sounds like a good deal. I am having my shop disassemble my car for paint though. If you're gonna do it, do it right. IMO
Crazy low! The estimate I got, after the shop repaired and repainted my roof after I joined the Flying Roof Club, was around $11K.
$11K!! Do they include the lube? You have to take into account the locations too. The mehicans in TX work much cheaper than all the right hand liberals in the NE for sure. You're probably paying twice the labor/paint rates.
After looking at the estimate again, it's really not far off... Go ask them how much more labor, prob 20 hrs worth, they would charge to R&R everything to paint. $3500 paint job is a pretty good estimate. I'm only paying slightly more ~$4000ish but I have a new hood/chin and rear spoiler being painted as well.
