Default Painting Help!!

Ok... Im just looking for a little guidance on certain steps on painting the front license plate bracket. Id like it to be gloss black to match my car. Ive purchased black and clear Duplicolor spray paint and just want to know how much of it i need to use, and preperations before I paint...also where I should paint it. thanks for any help

i think i know the type of paint you are using. what i would do is go to a local paint shop where car paint is sold with the paint code from your car and they can put the same color paint in spray can along with another can of clear. painting it is easy, just wipe it with thinner scuff it with a scratch pad lightly wipe it with thinner again primer it wait for the primer to dry about 1/2 hour dep. on temp wipe it with a tack rag after you sand it with some 1000 grt. or 1500 paint it then clear it. i would paint it in the garage door shut. may smell for a few days but will turn out better. not at night either because the bugs like the smell of paint and they will land on it and it is not fun wetsanding out bugs

If you search some of the major vendors, you can buy one pre-painted. Save you alot of work if you've never done it before.

Great advice. I would at least find your paint code and get the exact match. Not all black is the same and it is waaaaaaay easier to just get the right paint first before going through all those steps of prep, sanding and painting only to find that you don't liek the results. I painted my fuel rail covers and just finished painting my vararam kit Torch Red and I also used duplicolor, but I made sure I had the exact match. Also, take your time in the prep...you'll be glad you did!

Here are my results...

They actually look smoother in person, but I did not wetsand the clearcoat yet. Maybe some rainy day...

Vararam before clearcoats...I can't wait to get this thing on!

You did not say what you where using to paint with, so I have to guess a spray bomb. Clean clean clean then sand lightly with 400 clean again (use brake cleaner, spray rag first). Hold can about foot away, light mist the part, let tack about 10 min then repeat, do this as many times as it takes to cover the part. If clearing wait about 10 min after final paint coat, then do clear the same way, let dry, install.
