I just put in a locking gas cap since I am paranoid about someone syphoning my tanks or putting sugar in it Anyone else planning on doing this since the prices on gas continue to climb above $4.00 for premium?
I had to take my gas door off until I can repair the shaft that suppose to come out to keep it closed. I have used WD-40 but no luck, looks like I will have to open up the carpet.
I really got tired of all the people telling me my gas door was open!

Why would the price of gas cause someone to put sugar in your tank?
And have you ever tried to siphon gas from a C5? The stock locking cover is enough for me.

The stock gas lid locks and that is enough for me at this point. I haven't heard of any problems with people stealing gas around here - at least not yet.
The gas door would hardly discourage anyone from getting to the fuel. I put a locking gas cap on my car just after I got it...when gas was only $3.00 a gallon. I've said it before, I believe in layers of protection. My car is seldom out of my sight, no matter where we go.
I am also aware of the newest trend of just cutting gas lines or drilling/punching holes into fuel tanks to steal the fuel.
Hopefully, a C5/Z06 sits low enough and with the shields, might convince a fuel thief to move on to a higher profile sitting truck or SUV where the pickin's are easier.
Stand by, someone is going to suggest if they want it bad enough, they'll just take it anyway. I don't believe in enabling anyone to steal what someone else has worked so hard for.
To them I'll suggest leaving their credit card on the dash, leave the windows down and the key in the ignition so they won't take the fuel from the tank...

You're saying that your credit card is worth the same as whatever gas someone could siphon out, if it were possible to siphon from a C5. And "if they want it bad enough they'll just take it anyway". Then what good is a locking cap. It's all overkill and paranoia. Do what you want, it'll be fun when you can't find the key for the cap.
The thieves have gotten smart. The new trend is to crawl under your car and drill through the tank with a cordless drill and extract the gas that way. SUVs and trucks are obviously the most vulnerable because of high fuel capacity and high ground clearance.
I would be more concerned with my daily driver than the C5. If they are that desperate that they need to steal gas, I would rather have them suck it out than ruin my car.

I was wondering when it would come to this. These are the beginnings of very desperate times we are entering. This winter should mark the start of a very different America.
My car is so low to the ground they couldn't get under it and even stock it would be a pain to try to get it with a drill. Isn't the sugar thing a myth that has been busted awhiel back? Don't our cars have a screen from preventing a hose going into the tank?
just seen on the news, jerks are drilling into tanks to drain gas from them.
C5's are a little low to the ground to be climbing under then drilling the tanks, and then using some kind of container that's low enough to get under a C5 that has a lid to keep from spilling. I don't think that's going to happen, but some one taking a screwdriver and prying open the gas door is more probable. I bought a locking cap at Pep Boys for $10 with a coupon a couple of years ago. It can't hurt and it just might stop some one.
