Default Repost,........Cop follows me home (please dont use profanity)

This thread was closed before due to a "bad word"

Please refrain,..........just wanted some comment and feedback on my experience with the Police. Read on.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have had my 03 C5 for a couple months now and have been the proud owner of a few other sports cars in the past (69 Fastback Mustang, 77 Black Trans Am, 86 IROC Z28, 87 RX7, 91 Stealth Turbo)............but nothing and I mean nothing I have ever owned has attracted so much Police attention. It is insane.

Check this out,.......driving the babysitter home last Friday night in the Corvette and I observe an officer running radar, sitting behind a sign in the opposite direction.

Note to self,.........dont speed on the way back.

I come up on the area where the officer is adding to the county bank account, which is a 25 MPH zone. I go by at 23 MPH just to make sure there are no issues. The cop lets me go by a 100 feet or so and then pulls out and follows me turn for turn to my neighborhood (about a mile or so away). I am thinking, what the hell is he following me for ? The car is 100% legal and stock..............I am not happy with the fishing expedition to find a reason to pull me over and go down a road that leads to a road out of town instead of directly to my house. Soon after leaving his enforcement area he stops in the middle of the road, puts it in reverse, squeals the tires, almost runs off the road and then is nearly hit by another driver coming up behind him (who laid into the horn until the driver realized it was a police officer). I found his actions to be a bit more dangerous to the public safety than anything I do on the same roads. I wanted to report it, but you just put a larger target on your back (in my opinion).

Needless to say, I believe this type of behavior by law enforcement is nearly harassment. There are plenty of quick cars around, but this Corvette thing is crazy............every cop I pass head is on a swivel.

Just seems like a matter of time before I get pulled over and "checked out." Nowadays ANY kind of ticket, much less a speeding or reckless driving ticket is quite expensive. Do they need probable cause to follow someone around like that ? Or is that just for actual pull overs and searches ?

Is this the Corvette tax or is that just a reference to parts and labor ?

Sometimes I feel that they see a Corvette, their attitude is: "Well, if they can afford a Vette, they can easily pay this ticket". I've been stopped once so far, for no seatbelt and illegal tint. He let the tint fly, but gave me a ticket for the seatbelt. No biggie, I was breaking the law. That said, I comply with ALL the laws(except for tint - it just looks so good on the car). If I do get a ticket for the tint, so be it. It is only on me.

I wouldn't worry about it. Comply with the law, don't give them dirty looks, and if you do get pulled over, BE NICE!!!

Don't sweat the small stuff, can you imagine how many people proceed to speeding after they pass a trap with a high profile car. They do what they do for a reason. There might have been a delay while he was running your tag and didn't want to loose sight of you before it came up clear.

I'm not a cop but as far as I know they have every right to cruise around and follow you if they please. Many times, as mentioned before, they are running your tag. I'm a fireman and I monitor the police frequencies pretty regularly, and they constantly run tags, but never pull people over. They can find out a lot of things about you by running your tag, for instance if you have a warrant out for you.

I'm not gonna lie, if I were a cop I don't know what I would resort to to kill the boredom, especially if I worked nights. Let a car get pulled over at 1 am in my town, in a matter of a minutes, the whole shift of police cars wrap you up. Makes you feel like it is a drug bust or something

Seriously, I drive a loud exhaust, Shelby striped Mustang GT, and the Corvette, and I haven't noticed any more Police attention than driving our
Ford Escape or Focus. But, I live in Central Virginia, Augusta County, which in area is half the size of Rhode Island, and has 5 Police officers patrolling per shift!!!!! I just don't see cops that often, more so, in Waynesboro and Staunton, both small cities near me, but no undue attention. Sounds to me like you have too many Police with not enough to do!!!!! In fact my oldest son is applying to Alexandria PD because they are looking for MORE officers!

Default Profiled...........

Son, you have been profiled. Got , well had a dad that was a Kalifornia CHP for 25 years and yes certain people , places and vehicles are profiled and for the most part for good reason, but he did not stop you because you must be a good guy and he realized that.
I used to ride my Harley, i.e. raked , stretched, loud and I had a pony tail and a beard that gave Billy Gibbons a run for his money. I always go stopped.

Have had many low rider cars and again if I woandered out of my city I could expect to be pulled over and a dope dog called in.
I been stopped countless times for just having a particular 'collectors 'car i.e. '87 Grand National, '84 Saleen, '65 GTO ( drag car , straight axle, tilt font end 0, '79 Trans Am convertible, ect.
It's the police officers job to be nosey. Be happy, joyfull that he is there protecting the streets. I thank you.[IMG][/IMG]

Its possible he or she was checking the registration for wants, stolen, or what vehicle the plates were listed to . You would be surprised how many fast cars just want to be noticed. If you were going 30mph he or she would'nt have given you a second look

I've been pulled in my Vette & rec'd a warning. I was speeding, something like 65 in a 55. This was in Georgia so I was pleasantly surprised.

I have never noticed any undue attention being paid to me by the cops.

I notice, quite frequently, other drivers in all sorts of vehicles seemingly wanting to race me.

I too have had cops tail me for no apparent reason. I live in a 55+ community and had one local yokel swing a U-turn to get me. I was at or just below the limit when he first saw me, had my seatbelt on, and was in the right lane with vans & SUV's passing me. He stayed behind me for 5 miles, all the while punching my tag info into his laptop. He followed me until I made the turn into my development. The only thing I can imagine is there was a stolen report out for a gray/pewter vette and he wanted to make sure I wasn't it. Understand, I'm 62, have driven cars fast life my whole life but only when its safe to do so. I guess its the price we pay for driving visibly fast cars.

Agreed. I have A LOT of friends that work for the Sheriff's department and for the ones that are on patrol, that is something they always mention. If they come up to you and you act like an ***...you're bound to get a ticket for something. Believe me, they have their little book of vehicle laws that they'll just rummage through while they got you pulled over and get you for something. But if you act reasonable, admit fault, they'll usually let you off if it isn't something crazy. That being said...there are a few cops out there that no matter what you do or say...you're getting a ticket.

sounds to me like it was borderline harrassment and there really isn't much anyone can do about it. All of this stuff about being thankful they are out there protecting us is bunk.... They are out to write tickets... mostly to otherwise good people. I have been in a situation where I needed help from a cop.. not going into detail here... but I was left stranded (literally)... I am sure not all of them are like that... but I have yet to see one who's diffferent. I am related to 2 cops... topics of conversation always seem to revolve around ways to write tickets (some of the ways are pretty darn creative)..

I'm 24, and I drive an obnoxious yellow mustang, and the vette, and the cops here in town love yellow mustangs and a blue corvette with a kid driving them. They are both withing the legal limits, but if I ever wink wrong I get pulled over.

It hasn't happened to me in a long time, but when I worked night shifts it wasn't unusual for a police car to follow me home at night. I wasn't doing anything wrong, so I didn't worry about it. Just figured they were making sure I got home safely.

The one time I was aggravated by a late-night encounter with the police was when I spotted a marked patrol car going the opposite direction when I turned onto the two-lane road that led to my neighborhood from a four-lane highway.

I had been following a car that was driving erratically. When I saw the LEO, I flashed my headlights and stopped in the road, figuring he would stop beside me and I'd give him the information on the other car.

He didn't stop, but kept going. I sat there for a second to see if he was going to turn around or back up and he didn't. So, I proceeded to go on home.

After driving for about three miles, I got to an area where there were street lights and I saw he had been following me blacked out. When I saw that, I pulled over, stopped, got out and waited for him to pull up to me. By then, it was too late for him to do anything about the possibly DUI driver I had seen.

He asked me why I flashed my lights. I told him why and that he had missed his chance to get a drunk driver off the road. That was the end of it.

Life's too short to spend it being ticked off about something that isn't worth getting your knickers in a wad about.

Hey, I would be a little annoyed as well, I was tailed all the way through a neighboring town one night. Really annoyed me. But, driving two years without a front plate I never got pulled over even that night, but drove my buddy's STI without a front plate and got pulled over LOL...

However, if they are running tags and checking you out, that means they are doing their job (which we pay for) so hopefully it is a deterrent to someone stealing your Vette or getting it recovered quickly if it were stolen. Hopefully, they will get to know you and it won't happen anymore.

If a cop wants to be a D**K there is nothing you can do about it.

They enjoy watching you squirm.
