Default Coolant/Thermostat change

Hi, Everyone,
I recently changed the coolant on my '03 and in the process I was provoked to write this tip: Make sure that your new thermostat is functioning properly before you install it. You can do this by placing it and an appropriate thermometer in a pan of water on your stove. Heat the water and keep checking the thermostat and the thermometer to ascertain that the 'stat opens at the specified temperature. (I use a pair of tongs to take the 'stat out of the water so I can clearly see the opening.)

I've read a number of coolant articles on the Forum and have not seen this basic step included, so I want to pass it on. A new part of any type can malfunction from the "git-go".

Jim

Default Sorry

Ive posted this tip atleast a hundred times over the last 7 years... along with the proceedure to swap out the thermostat in five minutes without draining the coolant, and loosing less than a pint of coolant, that is easily recovered.

Sorry, Evil Twin,
I did come across even one of your hundred mentions during my "coolant" search.
