...... JUST PUT 'GOOD' GAS IN !! ...
A damaged or blown engine ( Thousands !! ) will make you regret that decision to save a couple of dollars during fill-ups, Jus Say'n !!

Using more octane is much better than using less octane. When your car needs the octane to prevent knock, it will be there. if the octane isn't there, the car will knock, the knock will then cause a timing retard condition, robing you of performance. Everything is a trade off.
When your car knocks, even once, it does create a negative action. Enough negative action, and it will do permentent damage to your engine. Specifically # 7 piston, wrist pins
and connecting rod bearings. Please keep in mind this wont happen over night, but an engine that has the potential of 400,000 miles could be severely hampered over time using fuel that causes knock, even though knock sensor will detect knock, they do not eliminate it. Simple logic here.. knock sensors have to detect actual knock before they can take action.
The smart move would be to have enough available octane, to insure the knock sensors never detect knock.
Take it or leave it. If 2.00 dollars, a tank ( the difference between middle grade and premium ) is going to be an issue , then yo do not deserve to own a Corvette.

8 years old but still a relevant topic... I did get sucked in to it. I feel so embarrassed.

I don't want to waste a bullet, because I don't have that many left.

I know, I was going to comment but discretion...... You've been dragged into this discussion so many times in 15 years, I just grab a beer and sit back.

I've put a bullet into this discussion enough times, I should have invested in a drum feeder, 15 years ago.

FYI Bill, 3 weeks until the eagles hatch. I posted a bunch of my eagle photos over there.

GM designed it to run best on a specific type of fuel. If it didn't matter they wouldn't say it. I have two cars that require premium. My Focus ST not only retards timing but also pulls boost. I got stuck once in rural Wyoming. There was no premium. Got 5 gallons. Just enough to get me to the next major city. It definitely made a difference. And it dropped my mpg by 2. So pretty plain to me it was not working as efficiently.
My corvette is very finicky about gas. It will knock at wot even on premium from certain sources. It seems to like the local chevron and QT pretty well. CostCo is ok too. Not so much on certain others. I keep a fuel log with every drop that goes in it. And all things being equal it just gets a bit better mileage on those brands. Again, speaking of sources locally around here. So as picky as it seems I would never put a lower octane.
I know with most cars there is no difference. But these were tuned from the factory for the higher octane.

Play it safe with 93 if possible, cheap insurance as these cars age.
Even on my former ride '12 Mustang when I switched from 93 to 87 it had to relearn, ran a little rough, idle hunting until it adjusted, not good on expensive motor.
