Need advise on Sumittomo tires. My "tire guy" recommended them @ $184/rear & $145/front. Car is an '01 C5 Coupe with a few "go-fast" mods. The price seems right but I don't want to get stuck with a crappy tire for another 25K miles. Car currently has original run-flats.

i have sumittomos and i like them. they've given me alot of miles since i baught them and still have tones of room to go. i DD my car. the traction the rain isnt hot, but as long as you keep your foot out of it, no problem. and on the dry street they stick SUPER well. i love them
Have the goodyears on my vette but on the grand am Gt have hade the sumis for over 60,000 miles and are just nearing change time. Would say for the cash great tires, no complaints other than they suck in snow, but if your driving the vette in snow you have other problems . tried it once-- very slow going!
Yup, thats what im running. During the few dry days here in washington they arent too shabby. Ive never "tested" these tires in the rain and I dont plan on it. But ive put about 4500 miles on them and they still have excellent tread depth.
Just took a set off and saved them. They have 60k on them and are worn a bit. They hold great on wet or dry. They turn over a lot faster than the UHP Khomos I have on now and they rode a bit rougher as they ar RFs.
Very similar tread to a HP Motrocycle tire.
Kept them to mount for AX.
Good choice.
The vette has GoodYear's GDS3 in the front, and the EMT runcraps in the rear. I do run Sumitomo on the mustang, and the rear tires are 315/35/17 and they hook darn good. I have been DD the stang since I got the vette for about a year now, and we get snow here in kansas, and they aren't bad at all in the snow. Next time I have to replace tires on the vette, I'm getting new wheels and sumitomo tires.
My thanks to everyone for their advise and input. Living in Florida, I have some concerns about the handling in the rain but, quite frankly, with the amount and frequency of rain we've had over the past couple of years, I don't think it'll be an issue. Tire Rack comes in @ $480 for the set so I'm going to see if my tire guy will come close. I've never bought tires on-line so help me out here, Where do you take them to be mounted? I would think most tire stores aren't anxious to mount someone else's tires and will probably hose me for the mounting/balancing/sensors/etc. Can I salvage my existing sensors when the run-flats are taken off?
I ended up getting rid of the run flats and got regular tires. I went with the Avon MechTech500 A/S. Cheaper and a hell of a lot quieter. I got them thru the Tire Rack. I also got a AAA membership just in case I get a flat.

just take it to discount tire. they will be super nice not charge you too much. they dont care who's tire, they just want your business. so if you get them mounted there they will hope you'll come back for repairs and balancing
the sensors are mounted on the wheel not the tire, so tire change is no problem. just remind them them that the sensor is in there, so be careful

I RUN Sumo they look cool and they are def cheaper. I do alot of burn outs though so i'd rather spend on cheaper tires than pay $280 a tire to look cooler roasting tires.
