.....Looking for some way to seal off the battery compartment right now while keeping it vented. Have to keep this from happening again.
This is just one way to do it. It's called a "battery den cover" and I purchased it from Mid America Motorworks. At the time they were available in Red or Black (they threw in the carbon fiber windshield cowl free )
When I do shows I stay close, too many jerks. Things I seen done by show attendees make your stomach turn, almost had a fight with a grandpa who thought it cool that his lil darling was trying to hang from everyones side mirror. Still make my blood boil!!
My dad would always remind me..."If it doesn't belong to you keep your hands in your pocket, don't touch!" My Dad passed away last year and I miss not taking him for a ride in the Vette and going to car shows to hear his stories. Those of you who still have your Dad take him for a ride for Fathers Day, you'll remember those times sharing your love for both the car and him. Bill
I was always taught to not touch unless the owner is there and you ask permission and it is granted.
one of my episodes as I call it. I was at an auto parts store when I look out the store window and there was this guy in his forties running his ringed out fingers up and down my white '69 AMX. I lost my mind I know it is no vette but I restord it from the bottom up.
The main thing I don't understand is a lot of these people that are giving the dirty looks or coming out with the comments. It is a CAR SHOW....obviously the people here care a great deal about their cars and that is why they are there!. If you don't care or have respect for this type of thing, then please stay home. Don't go bringing your little one to one of these to show him all these neat cool little cars, but not care that he is going to run his fingers all over the car.
Truely unreal, I have seen it myself and it does floor me, why do people goto these shows who have no clue or respect for them. Sorta is liike people yelling and screaming that a certain show is on the tv or radio that they don't want their kids watching....its called don't watch or listen to it.
sorry I hate to rant.....but this stuff is so disturbing.

I've been to lots of car shows and luckily never had anyone mess with my car - but there is always that jerk out there that feels he has to screw with someone else's car. Glad you didn't do any damage to the car - just wish you could have caught the jerk in the act.
I have 1/18 scale die-cast models (replicas) of my C5s...correct right down to the miniature N-CROWD license plates....I often display these models when showing my cars....A few years ago at Vettes on the Rockies (500 Vettes on display) I noticed a young child (about 8) had grabbed one of the models from my display and started pushing it around on the street going VROOOM, VROOOOM.....His sister soon grabbed the other model and joined him...The parents of both children were standing there, doing nothing...I tried my best to remain calm and told the kids the cars werent toys, that they were part of a display (I also had my N-CROWD collages on display, as well as a Darth Vader helmet for the NVADER and a real flight helmet and "Remove before flight" banners for NFLIGHT)....The mother said "They sure look like toys to me"....I assured her they were not as I took them from the kids...It was then I noticed one of the wheels had seperated from it's axle on one of the models, apparently from Junior exerting too much downward force while playing RoadRacer with it...I shook my head in disgust and returned them to my display, telling the parents there were very expensive vehicles on display at the show and to PLEASE keep an eye on their kids (for what good it did)...
Ya know, I really cant blame the kids....kids will be kids...but parents should be parents!!!
Another thing I noticed at Vettes on the Rockies was hoards of bicyclists riding their bikes in between the cars on display....The streets were crowded with spectators, show sponsors were constantly telling them to PUSH their bikes in hopes of preventing one of them tipping into a Vette on display, but most were soon back on their bikes, meandering through the cars....Where was my Taser when I needed it???
Last but not least....People and their friggin DOGs at car shows....Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against dogs...but C'MON people....at a car show???..On hot pavement???...If you such an animal lover why are you marching your dog around on 100+ degree asphalt???...Yes, most were on leashes....but one dog owner couldnt react in time at a recent car show I attended where his HUGE dog jumped up on the fender of a Hemi Cuda....CONVERTIBLE no less!!!!....Yes, it was a clone, and it's probably a good thing....had it been a real Hemi Cuda convertible (what are they worth..about half a mill???) the owner would have probably shot them BOTH....again, cant blame the dog as much as the dog owner...a car show is NO place for a dog...JMO

when i was 18 (years ago) i went to see my dad at a car show. he has a 64 impala ss conv. i walked up to his car but he was walking around and 2 guys were leaning on his car bsing. i said is this your car they said nope i said do you know who owns the car? they said nope i said do you wanna get the fruck off the car asshats!! they walked away and didnt see them again . its just a car right? well there just teeth on the ground from your mouth too . i get kids screwing around but not adults i dont care if its a chevette or chevelle if its not yours no touchy respect is what people need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took a jet to an airshow one year. Someone had stepped inside the roped off area and put a fast food bag in the intake. Imagine a used McDonalds down the front ed of an RB199
Maybe the gene pool just needs extra chlorine
The first time I was a F-117 was at a local Air Show. The fighter was still fairly new and unknown. It was roped off and there were 3 MP's inside the ropes with M-16's. Some dumba** just ducked under the ropes and made it about 1 step before the MP's had him on the ground with weapons aimed. Maybe not the type of intense security we need at car shows, but it does indicate how ignorant some people can be about shows and other's vehicles.
I have done some indoor shows where the cars are roped off and we do a lot of Corvette events that usually involve a show-n-shine. There is always at least one family in attendance that thinks anything their little darlings do is "cute". Sorry, crossing the ropes and standing on mirrors showing the undercarriage, opening doors and sitting in the seats, plopping your fat azz down on the fender, or letting you bratty snot-nosed "heir-to-the-throne" rub their ice cream covered fingers down the side of my car is not cute! These people need to be confronted and educated about proper respect. Rant over .
