[Z06] shifter opinon
The stock shifter is a total joke. This is not a Supra or a Lexus. The Z06 is built for performance. A little "gear noise and shift effort" should be welcome for the increased feel and control. It'll loosen up after time. Don't wimp out! :nono:
You said exactly what I suspected was happening.
You can not force the shifter from second to third gear. Let the springs do their job and return the shifter to the 3-4 gate and the car will shift fine. Be quick but be gentle at the same time.
I have tried this shift many times without any problems.
I wish people would quit calling the stock shifter junk. It is only junk in their opinion. GM makes the shifters to satisfy many people. Noise, vibration, and effort are certainly big considerations when designing a shifter.
This is the same reason the cars do not come with an open air filter box. Noise/water, etc. The whole car is built as a compromise but must appeal to the corvette masses.
If someone wants to mod theirs, have at it. The car stock, is fantastic.
I have CAGS, lowered, power antenna, shortened shifter, and polished wheels.
I have done some small things to mine but nothing on the car is junk. :)

Couldn't agree more! Any mass produced automobile is a compromise and that's the reason why aftermarket vendors make a good living. There is nothing wrong with going to a Kirban, Ripper or Hurst shifter. I personally tried the Ripper and didn't care for the feel of it, that's my opinon. Other's love it! I read to many posts concerning the after market shifters and I still have a Hurst on order. I am cancelling my order and will try what I did with the factory unit for a while. Those that want to change out the factory shifters I say go for it! This is what makes this hobby so great.
Merry Christmas to All and Happy Holidays.

z06 is a world class car & about as perfect as it gets although I think GM'S next move will have to be more cu.inchs if they want to stay up with the pack.
How much more can they reliably get with out going bigger, unless they go to forced induction which I would love to see. Then the tuners would have something to work with. :seeya
