insurance
I since sold my Cobra several weeks ago and transferred my insurance to my '02 Vette, kept the $25,000 amount and $500 deductable and increased my mileage to 5000 miles. My premium is now $600 a year.
I like the company.
Downsides are limits on mileage and use. Since the Shelby is a low-mileage survivor, it isn't driven much. I think I have 1000 miles per year for it. And they frown on using it as a regular driver.
Heacock is soliciting my business, and they've been good to talk to. If you can live with the limitations, it's a great deal. But if you're ever going to drive the car to work, or to the local pizza parlor for a kid's birthday party, or some such, check their limitations.
Cool thing with Hagerty is that they allow my 20 year old son to drive the car on an incidental basis. Sometimes he takes it to the car show, and I take the Corvette. He gets to be the cool kid, and has earned the privilege through helping with several of the maintenance projects on the car (fixing wiring faults, rebuilding the front suspension, rebuilding the rear end).
For a more actively driven car, we use Farmers' Mid Century Auto insurance. They decline drivers with questionable records (refer them to the mainstream Farmers company), and are really reasonable. About $480 per year, $1000 deductible, full coverage, $250k PD, $500k/$1m BI. Uninsured/underinsured coverage to cover the deductible if I'm hit by one of California's several million uninsured drivers. But I'm over 50, and have my homeowner's insurance with Farmers. Lots of companies will give you substantial discounts for "affinities;" occupation, multiple policies, etc. I get a big break for having Scientist in my degree and title - "Computer Scientist." I think they do the same for engineers, educators, and others.
Shop around, but Parish Heacock and their peers are NOT cheap insurers. Just specialty insurers...
