What is your guys take on the older c5's reliability. Was looking at getting one with under 100k but don't know the problems I am faced.

Bought my '98 with 100k last year and have had no major problems other than the column lock. The guy before me serviced it very well at the Chevy dealer. I get 30+ on the highway, but with an M6.

I have the performance gears so slightly below avg fuel economy, I usually get 17.5-18 around town and 25 on the highway at speeds of about 75.

I have 95k on my 97 and it is a very reliable car. I would not hesitate to jump in it and drive to Alaska!

I average about 26 between highway and city. I have the 3.15 so not sure if that affects mileage or not. I usually get around 30 or so on the highway but I don't drive it hard.

You might find this sticky helpful.

I think if you find a car that was well cared for you should be okay. Look for a car with only a few owners who took good care of the car.

It does, you'll be at a slightly higher rpm than someone with 2.73s.

I think the reliabity is great. My 97 A4 (2:73) has basic bolt-on modifications, runs good and gets 30+ interstate trip-miles to the gallon. Don't let this secret out... but they are a great car for a modest cost. Enjoy!
